  • Dog-friendly farm-style site on the edge of the Peak District
  • A 20-minute drive from Buxton and 25 minutes from Alton Towers
  • Walking distance from watersports and pubs; walking trails nearby
Pining to get away to the pretty Peak District? From Camping at The Hollies, a farm-style site on the edge of the national park, you’ll be able to put your best foot forward and get to walking or biking through valleys, woods and caverns… or mix it up with a meander in some of the park's characterful towns such as Buxton, 20 minutes’ drive away, and Bakewell, half an hour's drive away. The backdrop here is The Roaches – just one of the good spots for hiking in the area. There are more walks accessible right from the site or a short car ride away. While you’re exploring, you may want to pay a visit to Tittesworth Reservoir, just 15 minutes’ walk away down the road and a proper watersports haven. The reservoir also has a kids' playground. Pubs are also on hand to keep up the merry time, including a couple within walking distance. In Hartington, 20 minutes’ drive away, there are village shops, cafés and tea rooms for a coffee and a cake (or two, depending on how far you’ve walked). Leek (five minutes’ drive) or Rudyard (15 minutes) are other local spots with shops, restaurants and pubs. On site, a few sheep and chickens roam around. Plus, a resident pizza van called Pipers Pizzas sells delicious stonebaked pizzas (done in a woodfired oven and very much liked by many guests) every Friday and Saturday from 4pm and on bank holiday Sundays from 4pm. There are basic facilities – on-site toilets (proper ones, not portable-style) are provided, and there are four showers (bring coins for the meters if you want to use these). Firepits are available to hire, but they require a cash-only deposit, and you'll only be allowed to burn wood purchased on site. To make sure everyone gets a good night's sleep, quiet hours are set between 10pm and 7am.

What customers say

Spacious, chilled-out campground in a cracking spot with awesome views of The Roaches. Loads of pitches, folks love picking their own. Basic but clean loos and showers. Pizza van and fire pit hire a hit. Friendly staff, good value. Can get busy with limited facilities and a bit of road noise.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked It was a relaxing stay, lots of space to spread out. Toilets well maintained. We didn't use the showers, but they looked clean (£1 for 5 mins of hot water). Plenty of bins at the exit. Washing up facility was good (it was only cold water, but was fine for us). The young lady that came round Checking that everything was OK was so lovely.

Disliked Didn't dislike anything,
It was exactly as described.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Good location for Rock climbing at the Roaches
Good views of the rocks.
Onsite pizza van (at the weekend at least).
Clean toilets facilities with lots of loo roll. Toilet/shower facilities seemed insufficient for the amount of campers on a busy weekend but surprisingly I never had to wait.
Hot showers (£1 for 5mins)
Washing up sinks (but no hot water)
Large site with multiple camping fields.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and for choosing to stay with us.

We’re really glad to hear you enjoyed the location — being close to The Roaches makes us a great base for climbing and exploring, and we’re happy you appreciated the views, clean toilets, and the pizza van!

While our facilities are simple, we do our best to maintain them to a high standard. We're pleased you didn’t experience any queues despite it being a busy weekend, and we appreciate your feedback about capacity — it's something we're always reviewing as the site grows in popularity.

Thanks again for your visit, and we hope to welcome you (and maybe your group) back in the future.

Best wishes,
The Hollies Team

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Very friendly site staff who were all really helpful. Nice stone baked pizzas from the resident pizza wagon on site. Fire wood and fire pits delivered to your pitch on a buggy. Clean toilets and showers. Nice flat pitches, not crammed in like on some sites, so loads of space to spread out and for kids to play. The site was in a good location with loads to do around, with places nearby to get supplies etc. We had a great stay.

Disliked Not a lot to dislike really. A power socket in one of the outbuildings would be handy perhaps and maybe hot water at the washing up stations could be a future improvement (even if it was metered), however, it wasn't really an issue tbh, just do your own hot water and take a flask up to the sinks to add in. I knew this was the case before arriving, so it's not a complain as such, just an 'even better if'.

Local attractions

In such a scenic setting, you may well spend a lot of your time outdoors … there’s a valley trail and Thor’s Cave in Manifold Valley (20 minutes’ drive) and cavern tours and woodland walks around Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes). Skip over the stepping stones at Park Dovedale & the White Peak (half an hour) or do the loop around Dovedale (half an hour), another top beauty spot. Rudyard Lake (20 minutes) is heavy on adventure too, with an activity centre, steam railway, cycle paths and boat trips. If you’re particularly daring, Madrenaline Activities (10 minutes) runs outdoor activities such as segways, axe throwing and archery. Alton Towers (25 minutes) has many more adrenaline thrills. Family-friendly attractions are all around, including Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and the ice cream farm at Blaze Farm & The Potty Sheep (20 minutes). If it’s a peaceful place you’re after, Bakewell (half an hour) and Matlock (45 minutes) both fit the bill. The former has Bakewell puddings and a medieval bridge and the latter is a historic spa town. Biddulph Grange Garden (20 minutes), a National Trust landscaped Victorian garden, is just as peaceful.
