  • Rural site with well-spaced pitches and pretty countryside views
  • In a rural location in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape
  • Pick-your-own spot stays on a nearly-wild park run by helpful owners
Venture to Lower Vessons Farm for a nearly-wild experience – free from the risk of an angry farmer telling you to move on halfway through the night – at a site in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, 40 minutes' drive from the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury. The scenery at this park is stunning: see pics, then choose your spot in the 16 acres of dense woodland or on one of the vast fields. According to the owners, the main attraction here is having a back-to-nature break without any noisy neighbours to worry about (and they've spaced the pitches a whopping 50 metres apart to make sure that's the case…). Given the level of seclusion, there are no roads on site; access is over grass, and campervans are welcome. If the weather causes problems, the owners and their vehicles are on hand to help get you on and off the grounds. While the idea of being stuck at this site is actually rather a smashing one, you won’t really want to be restricted from roaming around top Shropshire destinations like Shrewsbury (half an hour’s drive away) and Ludlow (an hour). For explores without a car, Eastridge Woods (15 minutes’ walk) is well known for hosting mountain bike competitions and has trails that are free to use, whether you’re a beginner or an expert cyclist. If Lower Vessons’ rural location has you questioning where on earth you’ll find food, the answer is that it won’t be much bother – the nearest pub is a mile away and takeaways and restaurants are within a couple of miles. As part of the wild experience, this site welcomes campfires, barbecues and dogs, and has cold-water showers. Guests are also welcome to bring their horse to the site for an additional fee (simply add it as an extra when you book – hay and straw are included); there are some stunning trail rides in the area.

What customers say

Highly rated, chilled, roomy site with cracking remote views. Nigel's a legend, pitches are massive for peace. Campfires and walks are a bonus. Basic loos and track could be better, but great for a no-frills, nature escape.

Unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked Really enjoyed our stay at Lower Vessons. It is very basic with just a portaloo and cold porta-showers, but it has all you need. You are far away from the other campers so aren't disturbed overnight, and the owners were very attentive and friendly. Loved it!

Unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked Upon arrival we were greeted by Seb and Imogen. They directed us to our woodland pitch, provided our basket of firewood, water and firepit. Imogen advised we could text her if we needed anything, but we were then left to enjoy the evening.

We were a short walk from the field with a portaloo, the walk was fine for us, but this may be an issue for people with mobility issues.

Although we'd requested a woodland pitch, we didn't expect to get one due to it being the Bank Holiday weekend. Couldnt have asked for more! The pitch was great, we had plenty of room for our tent and equipment and had a great evening!

Disliked The only slight issue was that the woodland pitch we had, was on a slight slope. This wasn't a major issue for us, we were able to level out the area where our tent and chairs were and had no further issues.

Unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked Location: views are amazing as is the location for great walks. You can walk to Stiperstones from the site, visit the pub there and walk back. Also a lovely half hour woodland walk to the local in Habberley. The Mytton arms which was good value, friendly with nice food and cocktails!
Site: very spacious pitches so it really felt like you were camping on your own. Our dogs loved the freedom and it was very relaxing due to the privacy and quietness (but if you want to be louder they can put you in an even more secluded spot). The toilets were spotless.
Communication/ services: very prompt communication with directions etc. Imogen welcomed us and she and her family were all very friendly and couldn’t do enough - but not in your face - just there if needed. They supplied us with clean water each day - twice at times due to the weather. This was a great service.

Disliked Nothing!

Disliked A large party in corner of field, playing loud music from cars, whistling, clapping until 2am. I noticed on your website you don't allow large parties.
