Tents in one of the dingles

  • Dog-friendly site on 15 acres of Onny Valley countryside
  • River for pond dipping, paddling and fishing
  • Popular pub serving food directly accessible from the site
Pooh! Pooh Sticks, that is – if your kids have never played it, a stay at The Green Caravan Park is the place to teach them the art. A river – the small and shallow River East Onny – runs through it for paddling, pond dipping, the aforementioned Pooh Sticks and fishing: pick up a cheap net at the site shop and keep your little shrimps entertained for hours for mere pennies. Once they’re dried off, there’s on-land nature spotting too, at the area set aside as a nature wilderness, a play area and space galore for bike riding or outdoor games. The Green Caravan Park has several riverside pitches, with others on the park island, in the two dingles, on The Plateau, in the play area field or in a five-acre meadow; electric pitches are in a separate field with both riverside and hardstanding spots. The park covers 15 acres of Onny Valley countryside in a National Landscape between the Long Mynd and Stiperstones Hills: it’s no wonder it’s been called ‘a little gem’ by previous happy campers. Dogs can stretch their paws at the dog walk and exercise area on site (please keep dogs on leads in other areas of the park and clear up after them in all areas). Food is well covered too: the popular family-friendly Inn on the Green serves home-cooked food and is directly accessible from the park (pre-booking comes highly recommended), and there are several country inns in the local area – steak and ale pies at The Crown get particular thumbs up.

What customers say

Great spot, loved the peaceful vibe & stream. Plenty of room for kids/dogs. Owners are legends! Nearby pubs/shops handy. Facilities are clean but a bit old-fashioned. Mostly cracker, keen to come back!

From the manager: Many thanks for your review. We're so fortunate having the 'Inn on the Green' pub next door, they're a separate business from us but the team there do a wonderful job & will always do their best to offer you a table if they possibly can. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Liked Lovely owners who are very welcoming.
Great size pitches.
Toilets block very clean.
Stream on site great for kids to explore and catch things.

Disliked Lack of disabled facilities in shower blocks such as shower chairs, hand rails or seating in cubicles.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your review & your honesty. We totally accept our current lack of disabled facilities on-site but the new owners have this as a priority with future upgrading work planned during the closed season. In the short-term & on the back of your review, we will purchase a shower stool in the male & female shower areas as we want our visitors to have a safe & enjoyable stay. Please phone us (01588 650605) prior to booking next time & we can try & cater for your needs & allocate you a pitch close to the facility block.

Powered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked We have just spent bank holiday weekend at this site and what a little gem it is. A stream for the kids (and adults) to paddle in and try to catch some fish & crayfish.
There was an outside pizza van on Friday night which was perfect for a relaxing evening after setting up. The toilets and showers are clean and all working.
A lovely pub and little shop just off site (2min walk).
We will definitely be back next year.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review Joanne. We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay & the wonderful wood fired pizzas, over the bank holiday weekend. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Powered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked What a wonderful sight relatively flat well maintained and very spacious pitches. Lots of happy children playing in the stream without a care in the world! Good pub but be sure to book for food as it is extremely busy and great little shop across the road that do everything including delicious breakfast butties. We had an owl in the tree above every evening and bats flying around and the dark skies meant we saw such an amazing array of stars just the best weekend away. Thank you. Also smack in the middle of the Stiperstones and Carding Mill Valley perfect for walking.

Disliked Only one toilet block which was quite far from our pitch, my fault if I’d mentioned when booking my hubby had difficulties with walking distances they may have accommodated us closer but apart from that nothing!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your review & photographs Vikkie. We're so sorry to hear that your husband had mobility issues, please do mention this when you book next time as we definitely will allocate you a pitch closer to the facility block. We look forward to welcoming you all back soon.

Local attractions

Many visitors to The Green Caravan Park come for Shropshire strolls around the calm country lanes and hills, along the Offa’s Dyke path or from nearby village Wentnor. The park is between the Stiperstone Hills and the Long Mynd, which make up the biggest area of heathland in the Shropshire hills: walk the five and a half miles of the Stiperstone Ridge from the Knolls car park for magnificent views towards the Long Mynd. Folk flock to the area for the birdwatching too: keep an eye out for red kites, plovers and buzzards around the Stiperstones, which is a national nature reserve. This is also castle country: Stokesay, Powis, Montgomery, Clun and Ludlow castles are all within easy driving distance. Have a wander around the festival and foodie town of Ludlow after seeing the castle or see the castle, abbey and over 660 listed buildings of medieval town Shrewsbury, both half an hour away. Industrialists will be kept busy at nearby Snailbeach Lead Mine and historic Ironbridge and the Ironbridge Gorge Museums about 15 miles from Shrewsbury: this World Heritage Site site should keep even the urchins happy, especially going back in time to Blists Hill Victorian Town or creeping down the old Tar Tunnel. Closer to your pitch but dating from further away in time, Bury Ditches Iron Age hill fort is between Clun and Bishop's Castle: go on to the latter for more walks, access to the Shropshire Way and the country’s oldest brewery, the Three Tuns. Well-behaved urchins can be rewarded at several family-friendly Shropshire attractions: if they liked Ironbridge they’ll probably be fond of the historic working farm at the Acton Scott estate, featured on the BBC’s Victorian Farm, or getting close to the natives at Telford’s Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom.
