A lot of space to choose from

  • Peaceful wild camping at a farmland site in the Peak District
  • A 15-minute drive from the towns of Buxton and Bakewell
  • Less than an hour from Alton Towers theme park; near the Monsal Trail
Relaxing among green fields, trekking through the hills of the Peak District and settling down of an evening in a traditional village pub… If that sounds like your dream getaway then Burrs Manor Wild Camping, a mile from the village of Chelmorton in the Peak District, should be the very spot for you. The site is in a top spot for walking and cycling getaways, close to many of the waymarked trails crisscrossing the Peak District. The site is three miles from the start of the Monsal Trail, where you can hire bikes or explore the former railway line on foot or horseback, and less than 10 minutes’ drive from the starts of the High Peak Trail and the Tissington Trail. You can stay active on site with a game of footgolf (book in advance) or just idle around in the peace and quiet of the countryside farmland, taking in the view over the farmhouse towards the peaks. To unwind in the evenings, head to the traditional village pub in nearby Chelmorton, a 25-minute walk away, to have a bite to eat and knock one back in the beer garden. If you’d prefer to handle all the cooking yourself, barbecues are welcome on site and the towns of Buxton and Bakewell are nearby when you need to stock up on supplies.

What customers say

This family-run farm campsite has ripper Peak District views & a cruisy vibe. Hosts are legends, facilities are clean & basic with hot showers, and it's great value. Perfect for walkers or a bit of a wild camp, with a pub nearby. Some found it a bit sloping and windy, and facilities can be tight in peak season.

Liked A clean and tidy campsite with beautiful views. Did some awesome walks from the campsite, about 5 mile into Buxton. Also has a pub in walking distance, which serves awesome freshly cooked food at reasonable prices. Showers and toilets clean.

Liked The views, the laidback vibes, the walks from the campsite and the friendliness of everyone there!

Disliked Nothing (maybe the very cold shower - but it was glorious weather so it didn’t matter!)

Liked Lovely views, great location. Very reasonable price. Great pub less than a mile walk in Chelmorton.

Disliked Shouting and swearing of other campers into the early hours. Not really enough toilets/showers for number of people on site.

Unpowered grass site

Liked My second visit to Burrs Manor.
Nice to be back. Site was much busier this time, but the warden is careful to place pitches to keep the noisy away from the quiet. Really chilled atmosphere and very friendly. Great views and a great pub 15 mins walk away. I'll happily return again.

Disliked Nothing. It met all my needs.

Liked Easy access, friendly staff. Super friendly dogs and nice toilets.

Disliked Not a dislike just a note - it’s a sloping field so if in a van / caravan / trailer tent make sure you have levelling blocks etc.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Nice dog friendly site with helpful site owner. Busiest on weekends but nice and quiet during the week. Nice rural and quiet location so make sure you buy and food and drink you require before returning to the campsite.

Disliked Can be a little busy at weekends with occasional young groups, but I didn't mind as had good earplugs.

Liked Absolutely amazing location, breathtaking scenery surrounding the site. Lovely village pub about 10mins away. Plenty of space on the site and well maintained. The only site so far in the Peak District where I have had phone signal too which is great!

Local attractions

There’s lots more to do in the Peak District National Park than follow trails: abseil from the viaduct at Millers Dale, explore the spectacular dams of Derwent Valley or dive below ground at Blue John Cavern – all less than an hour from Burrs Manor. The nearby towns of Buxton and Bakewell are must-visit spots too: in Buxton, go below the earth’s surface once more at Poole’s Cavern, stand under the stunning Devonshire dome, or stroll through the Pavilion Gardens. And in Bakewell? There’s plenty to see and do here too, but the one thing you must try is a Bakewell pudding... Plenty of old houses are in the area for historic and cultural days too: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Tissington Hall are each less than 30 minutes from Burrs Manor, and The Old Manor, White Peak Estate, Little Moreton Hall, Kedleston Hall and Sudbury Hall are all within an hour’s drive. Too sedate? A more high-octane experience awaits on the rides at Alton Towers theme park, a 50-minute drive from Burrs Manor. For something that falls somewhere in the middle, try a treetop adventure full of zip lines and rope courses at Go Ape, 15 minutes from the site.
