In the immediate vicinity of the park, you should start by checking out the little town of Draguignan (10 minutes' drive), where a museum, cinema, skate park and the historic Tour de l'Horloge tower should keep most visitors interested for a good few hours. Similarly, there's lots to see in Fréjus (30 minutes), a bustling port town with Roman and medieval sites, beaches, a zoo and an archeological museum, while classy Sainte-Maxime (30 minutes) has beaches, a large golf course and a harbour where you can embark on boat trips. Its glitzier sister, Saint-Tropez (55 minutes) is a little further afield, with more beaches, excellent nightlife, yachting and a well-preserved old quarter to explore. For a nature break instead, you could lace up your boots and head to the Gorges du Blavet (25 minutes) for a pleasant hike around a wooded canyon; the Cascades de l'Aille waterfall (25 minutes) is also well worth visiting. For an alternative to the beach, travel inland to the lovely Lac de Sainte-Croix (50 minutes), a huge emerald-green lake with beaches, fishing and an astronomical observatory.
