Perhaps you’d like to take a day trip to Toulouse, seek out the best of Gascony’s cuisine in its little villages, or get out into the glorious Gers countryside for hikes and horse riding? Then again, perhaps you’d like to spend a day or two simply relaxing on a sandy beach while the kids take part in their favourite activities close by?
All of the above are easy options during a stay at Camping Lac de Thoux St-Cricq, right on the lakeside in the Midi-Pyrénées, as this is a site that’s both well located and well equipped. Toulouse is about 40 minutes away in the car, and the surrounding countryside is full of little villages to explore, outdoor activities and family-friendly attractions.
You don’t even have to leave the site to fill your days, though – that lake has a lovely sandy beach area for sunbathing, swims and fishing, and there’s more water-based action at the waterpark (with a heated pool, paddling pools and waterslides).
Back on dry land, a games room and pétanque court are on hand, and there’s a busy programme of entertainment in high season – including a kids’ club (for ages five to 12) on weekday mornings and activities including pétanque tournaments and fitness classes for the adults. Karaoke, night swims and discos fill the evenings, and small farmers’ markets pop up on site a few times a week to make the food-sampling nice and easy (although the site also has a grocery store and restaurant).
Practicalities are sorted here too, as the site has a well-equipped launderette, wifi and bathrooms with baby-changing facilities and disabled access.

If you’re staying local, there are several walking trails to follow nearby, or you can head to L’Isle-Jourdain (10 minutes’ drive) for a riding school, a nine-hole golf course and a waterski lift for wakeboarding.
A day spent touring the area’s little villages is one well spent too: perhaps stop by in Sarrant (10 minutes) and Fleurance (half an hour) and seek out places selling traditional Gascon products like foie gras, duck, honey and Armagnac. A visit to the historic Moulin de Brignemont (15 minutes) is worth putting on the schedule as well.
Just a little further away are family days out at places like Animaparc theme park (25 minutes) and Plaisance du Touch Zoo (35 minutes) for an African-style safari. City days in Toulouse (40 minutes) also have much to offer for all ages, from history-themed visits to the Capitole and Convent of the Jacobins to more contemporary attractions like Cité de l’Espace and the huge Airbus factory, where you can see planes being assembled.
