It's free, quick and easy!
- Eco-friendly park with roomy pitches and palm trees in a coastal area
- A 20-minute walk to Playa Los Narejos beach and 25 to Los Narejos town
- Cafeteria-bar and bike hire on site; go-karting within a 10-min walk
Meandering around the Mar Menor in Murcia on your next hol? Do it from Área Los Alcazares, a place with palm-tree-lined pitches and ample space for spreading out about 25 minutes’ walk from the coastal lagoon town of Los Narejos.
This self-sustainable park’s excellent for eco-friendly types – it’s the first of its kind in Europe not hooked up to the electricity grid and uses rainwater to filter waste pollution. Its roads are roomy (grand if you’ve got a large vehicle) and it’s surrounded by wide open spaces and pretty beaches. The facilities are also rather nifty, with a cafeteria-bar for sipping on Spanish cervezas after getting out into the countryside using the on-site bike hire.
Whether you’ll be riding, walking or driving round here, plenty of places are within easy reach – including a small beach on the Mar Menor lagoon about a 10-minute stroll down the road. Go-karting’s about the same distance away for pushing pedal to the metal and a bigger stretch of sand at Playa Los Narejos is a bit further away at 20 minutes away on foot.
If getting on the green’s always a mission of yours while on hol, a golf course is 10 minutes’ drive away and the Las Charcas Mud Baths take 20 minutes to reach if you’ll be needing to ease any sore muscles afterwards…

Local attractions
As the Mar Menor is a lagoon right off the eastern coast of Spain separated by a 22-kilometre strip of land called La Manga, it’s usually warmer in its water than out in the sea. Spend days swimming in the salty lake while on a hol at Área Los Alcazares or have a go at some of the aquatic activities available, from kayaking to paddleboarding.
Once you're dried off, turn thoughts to inland expeditions: Murcia, the capital of the region, is a 25-minute drive away for cavorting around a cathedral that took 300 years to build, drinking coffee in cute cafés and skipping around grand squares. On a longer day out, wander around the Floridablanca Gardens for floral displays and ancient ficus trees, or mosey on over to the Monteagudo Castle just outside the city to see the ninth-century building sitting on a limestone hill.
If animal attractions are more your bag, the Terra Natura Murcia is a humane zoo home to endangered species like the European lynx and brown bear; head back home via the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar bird observatory where you can sneak a peek at wildlife like the little tern and stork. Both are 15 minutes' drive away.
