- Peaceful site 10 minutes’ walk from sandy Costa Blanca beaches
- Salt flats a 20-minute walk away; DinoPark Algar 40 minutes’ drive
- Swimming pool and café on site; Calpe town a 15-minute walk away
To the Mediterranean coast you go… Camping CalpeMar is a quiet, dog-friendly site 10 minutes’ walk from the sandy Platja de Cantal Roig beach, on the Costa Blanca. Even more conveniently, it’s just 15 minutes’ walk from the centre of Calpe, a town renowned not only for its beaches, but also for its Roman ruins and dramatic limestone headland.
Urban family holidays are on the cards here, whether you’re looking for rest, leisure or sports activities. The site itself is quiet, for the comfort of all guests. However, action can easily be found on the Calpe’s main beach, where there’s sand and a promenade full of shops and restaurants serving local seafood specialities. In the old town, gastronomes can track down yet more restaurants down characterful streets.
After consuming all that delicious food, you might want to burn off a few calories at Parc Natural del Penyal d’Ifac (half an hour’s walk or a 10-minute drive from the site). There are far-reaching views from the top of this limestone outcrop, which you can reach via a fairly challenging hike that includes going through a tunnel carved out of the rock and a stretch with ropes. If that sounds too strenuous, you can relax while watching flamingos and other birds at the Observatorio de Aves de Las Salinas salt flats (20 minutes’ walk).
Facilities on site include an outdoor swimming pool for those wanting more time in the water, a café with a gorgeous terrace and a washing-up area.

Local attractions
In Calpe, the Torreó de la Peça stone tower (15 minutes’ walk) was part of the walls built to protect the town from attacks by Muslim invaders and pirates in the Middle Ages. It now houses the Museo de Coleccionismo, with displays exploring local history.
You’ve climbed Penyal d’Ifac and taken plenty of pictures from the beach, but if you want another perspective of this iconic ragged outcrop (it is, after all, one of the symbols of this area), you could head to Morro de Toix (15 minutes’ drive), the cape at the other end of the bay. There are hiking trails here, plus an observation point with expansive views of the coastline.
If the kids are keen to relive the thrill they experienced when they first watched Jurassic Park, you can take them to DinoPark Algar (40 minutes), where lifesize animatronic models of brachiosaurus, stegosaurus and other fearsome prehistoric creatures inhabit a park that also includes a playground and a cactus garden.
