Like the idea of Lloret de Mar but prefer a quieter vibe than you might get from a stay in the resort centre? Take yourselves a kilometre and a half away from the main town and up to Lifestyle Holidays at Camping Tucan – this small-scale site has the relaxed atmosphere of a more rural place, but with plenty of amenities and attractions within walking distance so you can dip in and out as you wish. Stroll for about 20 minutes from this Catalonia park and you’ll get to Fenals beach, which also has a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants; another 10 minutes will take you to the heart of the nightlife. There’s no need to stray that far if you don’t want to though, for much of what you might need is provided on site, including a supermarket, bakery, restaurant, takeaway and bar (and there’s a large hypermarket just outside too for any more unusual food requirements). Even the nightlife is sorted if you’d rather stick close to home, as there’s a busy programme of music and shows on site, plus disco sessions for the kids. Daytime activities are equally easily sorted on site: leisure facilities here include a large swimming pool (with a hot tub, kids’ splash pool and waterslides), trampolines, miniature golf and space to play games of football, basketball, pétanque and table tennis. There’s a play area for the kids, and a mini farm area where they can make friends with some small furry creatures. Sports activities and a kids’ club run during the day throughout the summer too; if you’d rather do your own thing, hire bikes on site and head off to see what you can find locally.

Liked: This is the 2nd time we have been and absolutely love it and will be booking ever year I just wished it wasn't so expensive during the summer holidays or we would come twice a year instead of once. Staff are really friendly and lots for the kids to do

Liked: The site was lovely and clean and well situated (not to far from resort)
Reps were good

Disliked: Broken boiler when we first got to accommodation so couldn't couldn't shower then when we got back after day out the caravan was flooded from the air con so had to get moved.1st day wasted

Local attractions

Lloret de Mar is a place that’s packed with all sorts of lively attractions, including the Water World waterpark, Gnomo Park amusement park and the stomach-churning Space Blaster ride. The main beach has several places where you can hire watersports kit and power boats (as well as sun loungers for a more relaxed day, of course). For a rather quieter time, try wandering around some of the local gardens, Santa Clotilde Gardens (10 minutes’ walk from the site) or Marimurtra Botanic Gardens (10 minutes’ drive), or heading to one of the less busy beaches, like Santa Cristina or Cala Boadella, both of which are walkable from Camping Tucan. If you fancy a proper change of scenery, take days out exploring the city walls and cathedral in Girona (40 minutes’ drive) or head to Barcelona (an hour) for a colourful time at the Sagrada Familia, Picasso Museum and Gaudí’s Parc Güell.
