  • Back-to-nature campsite overlooking the Sierra Morena mountains
  • Walks direct from site; La Puebla de los Infantes five minutes’ drive
  • Simple eco-site with a small store and a bar in a dark skies reserve
Overlooked by the lush forested Sierra Morena mountains north-east of Seville (just over an hour’s drive) and bordered by olive groves, Camping Puebla is a peaceful, no-frills spot shaded by trees. Its few facilities will suit campers looking for a back-to-basics rural experience. Eco-credentials are excellent on the site as the reception, the no-frills toilets and small shop selling basics are all crafted out of repurposed shipping containers – as is the rather cool terrace-bar overlooking the Castril Valley, which makes a lovely stop for a chilled drink at sunset. And don’t forget that this campsite sits inside the Reserva Starlight; wait for a clear night to spot the Milky Way glittering far above. If you fancy a change of scenery, it’s an easy five minutes’ drive into the pretty whitewashed settlement of La Puebla de los Infantes, with its tapas bars, alfresco cafés and restaurants serving local delicacies. Anything you can’t buy in the shop back at the site, you should be able to pick up in the town’s winding shopping streets.

Liked: Lovely peaceful location and plenty of birdlife to listen to/look out for. Beautiful scenery. Friendly owners. Very relaxed vibe with spacious pitches. Showers basic but spacious and clean and work well. Washing machine available. Able to put payments for self service bar, shop, w/ machine on tab so just one bill to pay at end. Wi-fi and 5g intermittent strength but mostly fine. Good shop with all the basics - water, (frozen soda) bread, tins, kitchen goods etc. Great “honesty bar” overlooking lake. Would very happily re-visit if in area and after an away from it all restful environment. Beautiful dam on approach from south east. Windy up and down roads to get there but plenty wide enough with care on hairpins.

Disliked: Low hanging tree branches on approach to pitches scraped top of van. Pitches were unmarked so if not directed to them then is a bit of guesswork as to which areas are available - some areas looked like pitches but overgrown! Not ideal if looking for walks/hikes from the door - village a good 45 min walk by road. Would have been good to see shop contents in photo so as to know whether to stock up beforehand.

Liked: A lovely rural site, which was very quiet during our visit. The site aims for sustainability and therefore the facilities are not 5* but they are functional, clean and well maintained. The site has a good shop and also access to fridges to store your food. 'Marianelo' the manager (sorry probably spelt wrong) was very helpful and accommodating.

Situated in the hills between Sevilla and Cordoba, the access to the cities could not have been easier using the train service which runs nearby. And the local town Puebla de los Infantes had all you need in terms of Supermarkets, bars and restaurants.

All together a very good stay.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: We stayed there in September for 5 nights. There were only 1-4 groups during our stay, so we had plenty of places to set up our tent.

The campsite is super quiet and chill, with no music or parties allowed.

We didn’t have tables or chairs, but we were allowed to use the bar area as much as we wanted, so we spent most of our time there.

The owner is super nice and flexible. He even allowed us to turn on the small fridge to store our food separately and emptied it out for us.
The bar is self-service, offering beers, soft drinks, and water at supermarket prices, super comfortable.

The showers always had hot water and were clean (as much as a campsite can be).
There were no mosquitoes - really none. It was a pleasant surprise, as mosquitoes usually love me, and this is the part of camping I hate the most.

There is washing machine, and nice restaurants in a close town.

If you go 5 minutes by car there is a beach for the lake.

Super nice motorcycle roads around the place.

Disliked: It was very dry (but I guess it's everywhere during/after summer in Andaluzia).
There were many flies and sometimes a bad smell close to one side of the camping (because of the farms next to it).

Local attractions

La Puebla de los Infantes (five minutes’ drive) is overlooked by a medieval castle, open for a look around its gently crumbling walls and tower. Other sights include the parish church of Nuestra Señora de las Huertas, with its squat stonework tower and elaborately gilded altar, but much of the attraction of this pretty town is in simply wandering streets lined with whitewashed houses covered in flowers and grazing in its tapas bars. In the Parque Natural Sierra de Hornachuelos (half an hour), hiking and cycling trails run through grassland scattered with wild olive trees and cork oaks. As you explore, keep an eye open for deer and wild boar in the meadows, otters in the waterways and – just maybe – elusive lynx, and don’t forget to look up as golden eagles are often spotted soaring in the thermals above the park. Travellers on foot or bike can follow the Sendero de Los Almendros trail along the side of the José Torán Reservoir to the Mirador de las Palomas (half an hour by bike) for spectacular views to distant mountains. The reservoir itself is popular for fishing, kayaking and powered paragliding, and there is swimming from the artificial Playa El Almendro beach (five minutes’ drive).
