- Luxury Mongolian yurt in Andalusia, a 15-minute drive from Coín
- Costa del Sol 45 minutes’ drive; Caminito del Rey hikes 50 minutes
- Adults only; pool, covered kitchen and dining area; meals on request
Fancy a luxury Andalusian camping holiday à deux, surrounded by nature? The large, handmade Mongolian yurt at Finca Azahar, among olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation, delivers all that – within a 15-minute drive of the town of Coín.
Tastefully decorated with traditional textiles, ethnic artefacts and vintage furniture, the yurt is set on a raised wooden floor for extra insulation. The comfortable double bed sits under a central roof crown window, so you can be star-spotting while cuddling up under the blankets with your partner. (Speaking of blankets, all bed linen and towels are provided.)
After a good night’s sleep (the silence in these hills is generally conducive to sweet dreams), there’s not much better than waking up to birdsong and stepping outside, where you’ll be greeted by views over the orange and lemon groves down to the river.
A fully equipped covered kitchen is attached to a dining area shaded by eucalyptus trees. If you can’t face cooking duties, the owners will be happy to provide a meal (if requested in advance).
Food sorted, the day is yours to do as you please. You can relax by the private pool, the wind chimes ringing softly in the breeze, hit the beaches of the Costa del Sol (45 minutes) or set off exploring the surrounding hills. Both the Parque Nacional Sierra de las Nieves (40 minutes) and the Caminito del Rey (50 minutes) are popular hiking areas with spectacular views from observation points.

Local attractions
For a day of adrenaline-fuelled activities, head to Sunview Park (35 minutes’ drive), where – as a couple – you can have a go at the region’s longest double zipline (1,350 metres). If that sounds too daunting, there’s also disc golf, archery and equestrian trails.
The historic city of Malaga (40 minutes) has elegant pedestrian streets lined with tapas bars and restaurants. Along with the ruins of a Roman theatre and a hilltop Moorish fortress with sea views, there are a couple of Picasso-related museums (one of them the artist’s family home) and a modern harbour area.
There are beaches and infinity pools on the shores of the Embalse Conde de Guadalhorce (45 minutes), a spectacular reservoir surrounded by forested hills laced with hiking trails. This is the place to come for paddleboarding, kayaking or bouncing inflatable action at the Zona Recreativa - La Isla.
