  • Peaceful campsite with Sierra Sur de Jaén views at Valdepeñas de Jaén
  • Las Majadillas hiking area 10 minutes’ drive; historic Jaén 40 minutes
  • Restaurant and pool bar; play area, adventure park and kids' club
Right on the outskirts of pretty Valdepeñas de Jaén and overlooking the foothills of the stunning Sierra Sur de Jaén, family-friendly Camping Valdeluna is a peaceful spot for all comers wanting to escape busy everyday life. This place is pretty much bliss for the kids, with a nature area for them to poke around in, a play area for toddlers and an adventure park with rope courses and climbing frames for older children. There’s also a kids' club with activities for youngsters, as well as free access to the local municipal swimming pool for anyone staying at the campsite. There’s much to please the grown ups too. Top-quality restaurant facilities include Quejigo del Carbón, with its spectacular hill views, equally spectacular cuisine and menus crafted from fresh seasonal and local produce. The pool bar is just the spot for a leisurely breakfast, light lunch, a quick snack for the kids or a cup of good coffee while catching up on emails. And in addition to all that, there’s a large barbecue area so you can conjure up your own alfresco feasts. Camping Valdeluna also welcomes dogs, so you won’t have to leave Fido at home, and there are loads of walks right from the site. If you’d prefer to explore on two wheels, you can hire mountain bikes from reception, where the approachable team will help you with any problems. And by the way, the campsite is completely wheelchair accessible, so everyone can enjoy their stay without any problems.

Local attractions

You’ve enjoyed views of the Sierra Sur de Jaén from the campsite, and now it’s time to explore them on foot. There are waymarked trails in the Las Majadillas hiking area (10 minutes’ drive) and more demanding, steep terrain to navigate around El Barrancón (15 minutes). For awesome views over the craggy peaks, have an amble up to Peñón de Gil Lopez viewpoint (45 minutes’ walk). Fans of pedal power can cycle around Quiebrajano Reservoir, or admire the mountain views along the trails in Área Recreativa La Peñuela (both half an hour’s drive). For an urban day out in an historic setting, head for Jaén (40 minutes) to visit the remains of the 11th-century Moorish Baños Árabes, inspect the massive Renaissance cathedral and check out ancient statuary and frescoes in the Museo Provincial de Jaén. Wind up your visit with a tour of the ramparts of Castillo de Santa Catalina, from where you have views over the seemingly endless olive groves around the city.
