When it’s breathtaking mountain views and a peaceful location you’re after, Camping and Glamping Grintovec has both by the bucketload. Set in the remote countryside of Preddvor and with a backdrop of the highest peaks in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, this pocket-sized site has a clutch of glamping pods straddling a leafy hillside.
Each wooden pod comes with all linens and towels supplied, a mix of double and single beds (the latter can be combined to form doubles), a covered verandah and a small private garden. Handy facilities include free parking and an accessible shower block with hair dryers.
Staying fed and watered is pretty easy here, thanks to the picnic area, barbecues and catering tent laid out with tables for eating and socialising among your fellow guests. Here you also have a coffee machine and a continental breakfast service to kickstart your day, or you can also order a takeaway breakfast to be delivered right to your pod.
A play area takes care of younger kids, and adults also have plenty to do on site: start with yoga classes and a swim from the private river beach, or indulge in some bathing therapy in the cool waters of the Kokra River. Grintovec is also a great base for family mountain hiking, cycling and climbing adventures.

- Jacuzzi: access to the swimming pool is not included in the rate and is charged €20.00 (£16.58) per adult and €15.00 (£12.43) per child per 45 minutes.
- Entertainment and activities are available between 01/05 and 30/09.
- Bookings must not be for more than 60 consecutive nights.
- Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.
- Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.
- No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.
- Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.
- Fires, barbecues and/or firepits will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.

Local attractions
Camping and Glamping Grintovec is a handy hub for cycling and climbing in the forested Kamnik-Savinja foothills (where you can also forage for mushrooms) straight from the pitches. There’s also fishing and canoeing in the waters of the Suhadolnica and Kokra rivers (both about five minutes’ walk away).
The kids will love the chance to knock a ball around at Adventure Mini Golf Panorama (35 minutes’ drive), set among fir trees and with fine views of the mountains. The skaters among you can head for Sports Hall Bled (40 minutes) for a few spins on the ice rink, probably followed by a stroll around the stunning shores of Lake Bled itself.
If you’re set on more hardcore outdoor activities, go paragliding over the shores of the lake, or launch yourself off the peak at Potoška Gora (half an hour) for spectacular views over the Preddvor region. Alternatively, for some sedate sightseeing days out, head for the gorgeous baroque-era centre of Ljubljana (40 minutes) to visit the medieval castle, admire the ornate interior of Saint Nicholas’s Cathedral and sip a ‘zganje’ schnapps in terrace cafés along the Ljubljanica River.
