  • Small, well-equipped site on the edge of Fruška Gora National Park
  • A 10-minute drive to Sremski Karlovci wineries; 25 minutes to Novi Sad
  • Play area, kitchen, firepit and open-air swimming pool on site
Set on the edge of Fruška Gora National Park and 10 minutes’ drive from the village of Beška, Vidmar is a small site that packs in a whole lot of facilities for its guests. You’ll be able to pick your own pitch here, choosing a sunny or shaded spot depending on your mood (and the weather…), and as guest numbers are kept on the low side, there’s always plenty of space for everyone to spread out and set up awnings, barbecues and camping chairs. You’ll have access to a firepit for your campfire evenings, a small shared kitchen for food prep and picnic tables for outdoor dining. There’s also a wifi service and bathrooms with toilets and hot showers. A small play area and trampoline are on hand to keep the kids amused, and there’s space for outdoor games too. The highlight, though, is likely to be the open-air pool – if you’re here for more than one day, access is free (and likely to be most welcome on warm summer days, especially if you’ve been hiking in the national park).

Local attractions

First stop on your Beška adventure may well be Fruška Gora National Park (five minutes’ drive) for scenic hiking through hilly woodland. When you’re not out walking, you may like to visit some of the park’s many monasteries, such as 16th-century salmon-pink Krušedol (five minutes’ drive) with vibrant frescoes in its chapels. Baroque-style Novo Hopovo Monastery (20 minutes) is also open for tours of its frescoed interiors and neatly landscaped grounds. You might also check out the vineyards around Sremski Karlovci (10 minutes), known for their sweet, spiced dessert wines, and for a subterranean jaunt, you can book tours of the labyrinth of catacombs below Petrovaradin Fortress (20 minutes). Standing on the banks of the Danube, Novi Sad (25 minutes’ drive) is also a great place to visit, with architectural attractions, museums and – perhaps surprisingly – a beach on the river, which really gears up in summer with loads of bars, cafés and live music.
