Now here’s a Leiria location with a lot going for it… spacious Parque Orbitur Foz do Arelho is a family-friendly forest spot that’s also within easy reach of beach, nature reserve, lagoon and plenty of town and city amenities. To the sea first? It’s about three kilometres from the site to the sandy stretch at Foz do Arelho and a couple of kilometres from the shoreline of Lagoa de Óbidos. Having those two options is mighty handy: head to the town beach to ride the Atlantic waves or get over to the lagoon for calmer waters that are more suitable for family swims or getting to grips with watersports. Urban times aren’t far away either, as a drive of 10-15 minutes will get you over to Caldas da Rainha or Óbidos. No worries if you’re trying to avoid town time though: there are lots of fine walks to be had in the nearby nature reserves and along the coast, and a good clutch of cafés and bars to refresh yourself in around Foz do Arelho village centre (a kilometre away). Can’t face travelling that far? Simply stay put – there’s a café and grocery shop on site to sort the eats and drinks, and a swimming pool for cooling off on warm days. Kids can spend time at the playground or sign up for summer activities, and there’s a paddling pool to make sure they can swim safely too. A launderette, wifi connection, campervan service point and recycling facilities are also provided to keep life nice and simple.

Disliked: Booked for a night but the pitches were in such a bad condition( looked like they had been ploughed )so we lost our deposit and left .

Liked: The best moment was leaving.

Disliked: Hell on Earth…
Smell of piss, litter everywhere, no WiFi coverage (around the reception doesn’t count), people partying to 1 am (screaming, talking, “singing”), dog barking to 2 am (all the f****** time). No hot water in the bathroom. It’s a disaster. It is everything opposite of place you ever wanted to go to. Mind blowing imperfection.

Local attractions

Coastal pleasures come in all varieties around here: take the five-minute drive to Foz do Arelho beach for surfing or a similar journey to Lagoa de Óbidos for canoe hire, a sailing school and other more placid watersports. There are more fab watersports activities (surfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and the like) in São Martinho do Porto (20 minutes’ drive) if you want to give everything a go. For something rather less energetic, take a wander around the seafront village of Salir do Porto (10 minutes) or head south to Peniche (half an hour) for a boat trip to the marine park around Berlenga Grande island, perhaps with a little hiking or snorkelling along the way. Hikes back on the mainland can be had at Paúl de Tornada nature reserve (10 minutes) or along the quiet trails of Serra de Montejunto (45 minutes). Fancy a little culture injection instead? Try the Ceramic Museum in Caldas da Rainha (10 minutes) or a trip to the medieval walls of Óbidos Castle (15 minutes).

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Modifications are subject to a €10.00 (£8.40) fee.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
