Fancy some forest pitching up near a Portuguese beach? Park your gear at Parque Orbitur Gala, near Figueira da Foz. The splendid lengthy sands – and popular surfing/bodyboarding spot – of Cova Gala are within walking distance of the park at 400 metres away, and the site is in the centre of Lavos forest and close to Serra Gorda mountain for outdoor options on days when you're not at the beach. And it's all a few kilometres north of Figueira da Foz and another splendid beach in its 2km stretch. Parque Orbitur Gala is properly equipped with plenty of facilities and amenities, such as an outdoor pool, tennis courts, a sports court, table tennis, playground and even a car wash; food is sorted at the supermarket and the restaurant and bar with terrace. Parque Orbitur Gala also has coin-operated washing machines, a service point and three shower and loo blocks.

Liked: So close to beach. Superb shower facilities so clean. Beautiful swimming pool (sadly stayed during severe coastal event warning) so didn’t get chance to use. Despite really bad weather at times - reasonable sheltered and well drained pitches. Really lovely helpful nice staff.
Seek out the free pedestrian ferry to Foz as only 30 minutes walk(could do on bike easy) from camp and excellent. Foz well worth a visit especially up beach front to Buarcos and sardines at Mar di Vista and ice cream at San Remo!

Disliked: Struggling to think of anything. Maybe that restaurant not open and shop not fully stocked but not high season so understand.

Liked: Camping faisant partie d'une chaîne donc bien équipé (douches avec eau chaude, toilettes avec papier, éviers pour vaisselle avec eau chaude...), accès à l eau sur les emplacements
Machine à laver 6€ et sèche linge 6€ pour 1h

Disliked: Un peu cher (presque 30€ par jour en mars pour 1 caravane 2 personnes et 1 chien)

Liked: Good toilet block and pleasant park

Disliked: Receptionist tried to not provide power site even though I had booked one, had to show her the booking, she was pretty dismissive bordering on rude. Can walk to beach but it was extremely windy and dangerous waves, I would not swim there

Liked: Lovely vibe - marvellous pool and young children entertainment. It was really busy and we wished we had planned to stay longer. Bathrooms were clean and facilities sufficient for a merry stay!

Local attractions

After a day at Cova Gala's sands/sea, find Figueira da Foz for a day on its beach followed by dinner at one of the many restaurants or pavement cafés among its old streets (the casino in town is pretty popular too). The Sierra da Boa Viagem mountain range is three kilometres north of the town for nature spotters and hikers. The ancient city of Coimbra is about 55km from Parque Orbitur Gala, dating back to Roman times and awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2013 for its rather magnificent old buildings. Spend at least a couple of days here if that's what you're into: highly recommended sights to see are the university baroque library, its rising Upper Town and its twelfth century Sé Velha cathedral. Coimbra's Museu Nacional de Machado de Castro/National Museum Machado de Castro is built on the old Roman forum; more Roman history is at Conímbriga, one of the biggest Roman excavations ever unearthed in Portugal and still the best preserved.

Booking terms and conditions

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Modifications are subject to a €10.00 (£8.40) fee.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
