  • Family-friendly site in the woods just outside the small town of Chaam
  • Half an hour from Efteling, one of the world's oldest theme parks
  • Two-hectare lake with sandy beach, playground and swimming deck
Choo choo... That’s the sound of RCN Vakantiepark de Flaasbloem’s very own little road train trundling around the site, much to the delight of all sorts of guests from waving toddlers to weary-footed walkers. It’s not the only source of delight around here, of course – both active types and serenity seekers are well catered for at this family-friendly site just outside the small Brabant town of Chaam. Those in search of a peaceful place to unwind will be chuffed too with the woodland setting, all pine-scented air and glimpses of passing squirrels and birds. Also getting a thumbs-up from guests is the two-hectare swimming lake, for hours of swimming, whizzing down the waterslides and clambering at the play area, while quieter types relax on the sandy beach or settle down with a book on the huge grass sunbathing area. Tinies have their own water play area while competent swimmers over eight can continue their swims at the indoor pool. There’s plenty more for the kids to do around the place – games of tennis, beach volleyball, table tennis and pétanque, perhaps, or climbing fun at the playground. And that’s if they haven’t been swallowed up into one of the kids’ club activities and all manner of malarkey including crafts, games and dancing. For eats, the restaurant is on hand all day; DIY chefs can light up a barbie, and you can kickstart your morning with a cracking breakfast of fresh pastries from the croissanterie.

Fully-serviced grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked The private toilet block was amazing and the swimming facilities were brilliant. A beautiful well kept site with lots of play areas scattered across it and perfect for our three year old to practice cycling. Great supermarket on site. We didn't try the restaurant but it looked good. Didn't see another English family and weekend entertainment in Dutch but our daughter still enjoyed it!

Disliked Friday and Saturday nights were noisy with loud music playing. The children's activity program was very limited, nothing in the week and only short activities at the weekend. WiFi patchy.

I enjoyed my stay.

Electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had an amazing time at the campsite. It was a clean, well laid out and the staff were so helpful and friendly. They all spoke amazing English as well. The toilet and shower block was modern and spotless every time we used it.
The facilities were amazing. We were here when the weather temperatures were around 25 and although the lake was ‘fresh’ to get into was absolutely fine to be in and the kids were in it for long periods of time; they particularly loved the slides!
The on site shop sold lovely fresh bread and pastries as well as freshly squeezed orange juice which was delicious. (As were the milkshakes from the snack bar / take away!) We thought the shop was in the main reasonably priced as well.
The choice of activities available were good too. My children enjoyed table tennis (we had our own bats but I believe you could borrow for a cash deposit) and hiring an E chopper bike and go kart.
The cycle paths off the site are unsurprisingly amazing and so easy to get out and about for an explore too
We were in a Mororhome and our pitch was completely level. Wifi service great

Local attractions

The countryside all around the site is prime territory for cycling – mountain bikers should find plenty of trails in the woods just a couple of minutes’ ride from the park, while those who prefer a flat path can head out to the Bels Lijntje route which runs on the railway line between Turnhout and Tilburg and passes close to the site. Around 40 minutes away is the Biesbosch National Park, a freshwater tidal area with a huge network of creeks and rivers to explore. How you get around is up to you – take your bikes, go for a walk, hire canoes or take a horseback tour – but whatever you choose, keep your eyes open for wildlife including beavers, sea eagles and kingfishers. Kid-friendly attractions in these parts include the The Earth reptile zoo in Breda, 20 minutes away, where crocodiles, lizards and snakes lurk; you can even handle them if you’re feeling brave. If you’re more of a cuddly cuties type, make the 10-minute drive to Stichting de Ezelshoeve donkey shelter, to meet the animals and take them for a walk through the surrounding countryside.
