How long have you got? If there’s any chance of wangling an extra day or two of hols, you’d be well advised to do so – there’s an absolute heap of things to do at Recreatiepark De Achterste Hoef. In the woodland surrounds of the Brabant Kempen and half an hour from Eindhoven, this is a tiptop spot for a family break. Moans of ‘I’m bored’ are extremely rare round here, what with all the activities to pick from: the site has its own 9-hole golf course, miniature golf course, driving range, lake beach with waterslide, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, indoor playground, bike-cross track, bouncy castle, multisports court and mini farm. Still demanding more? Prepare to lose sight of older kids for hours on end as they engross themselves in a vast array of age-appropriate activities laid on for them through the school holidays (cooking, dancing, crafts and theatre shows are frequently on the menu). Keen water babies aged 10 and over can even learn to scuba dive here, practising their skills in the pool before moving on to the lake. All the basics are geared up to make parental life easy too – the spacious heated toilet blocks include such useful touches as kid-sized loos, baby changing areas and family shower rooms, and there’s a wifi service to help you keep in touch with the folk back home. Eats (including freshly baked bread) can be sorted at the well-stocked mini market, the snack bar or the restaurant, which serves up a picky-eater-friendly menu in its cosy interior or out on the terrace.

Liked: The lake, the cleanliness of the whole site, the staff were all friendly, food was nice in the restaurant, the pitches were a really good size.

Disliked: Inside pool could do with some updating with more showers & loo’s. Another few slides at the lake would make a huge difference too.

Liked: Sanitairgebouw was schoon. Voorzieningen op de camping zijn goed. Vriendelijk personeel.Plaatsen zijn groot genoeg. Horeca/terras helemaal oke. Goede ligging zodat je op de fiets meerdere kanten op kan. Algemene indruk van de camping is netjes en opgeruimd.

Disliked: Weinig tot geen toezicht. Omdat wij een plaats bij het sanitairgebouw hadden zagen we s'avonds regelmatig jeugd daar rondhangen. Ze zaten dan op de wasbakken, die bestemd waren om af tewassen, zitten met schoenen op het aanrecht en in de wasbakken. Dit leide nogal eens tot irritatie bij de overige campinggasten. Daar is melding van gemaakt bij de receptie maar helaas gaf dat geen verbetering. In de beschrijving stond dat elektrische stepjes niet werden geaccepteerd maar ook daar reden er meerdere van rond. Jeugd op fat-bikes, keiharde muziek tijdens het douchen van de jeugd. Mensen die tot diep in de nacht voor hun tent en onder het genot van alcohol luidruchtig zijn.
Allemaal zaken die met toezicht en duidelijke regelgeving te voorkomen zijn.

Liked: Efficient check in. Pre requested licence plate, gave us pitch number and drove in through automated barriers. Very well run and tidy, modern facilities. Quiet even though full, seemed to be longer staying (season) dutch and German families. Next to lovely lake. Water as well as electric for every pitch.

Disliked: Nothing. Impressed with site

Liked: The site has plenty of play areas for young children, almost every camping field has some kind of play equipment/sandpit area for children which meant out small children could play in an area close to our tent and allowed us to sit by our pitch rather than go to a play area away from our pitch.
Toilet and shower facilities were good and always clean. Very friendly staff amd committed children's entertainment team.
The range of activities was good, food in the resteraunt was also good and nearby ice cream/coffee play also recommended if you have small children.
Cycling distance (with children aged 3 and 5 in bike seats) to nearest town.
Lale was clean and clear amd felt comfortable swimming in it with the children. Same for the swimming pool though it was a bit cold for our youngest.
Big site so plenty to explore, though a todddler running off could cause high stress levels due to the vastness of the site!

Had a lovely stay.

Disliked: Had to pay for rubbish disposal which was not a major issue but this was not clear on booking. Also only glass and paper can be recycled but I believe this is a NL wide thing??
Swimming pool was a little cold but clean.
Sandy pitches were the nature of the landscape so that is not a problem but the sand bugs were a bit creepy and seemed to get everywhere!

Liked: Clean facilities, lots of space of each pitch, calm and friendly atmosphere.toilet &shower block clean. Staff really helpful.

Disliked: Not lots to do very locally but as with all of Netherlands great access to cycle paths and most places within easy driving distance

Local attractions

Tear yourselves away from the site’s own attractions to head out into the surrounding woods for a walk or a cycle ride. Hire bikes on site and pick up maps to show you easy routes through the forest to local villages such as Bladel or Hapert. A half-hour drive away is the city of Eindhoven, home to several museums including the Van Abbemuseum art gallery and the Prehistoric Village living museum, full of exhibits and fun activities to give kids an idea of life in olden days. Also easily accessible from the site are heaps of family-friendly days out: Veldhoven Zoo, DippieDoe (an amusement park for pre-teens) and the excellent fairytale-themed Efteling theme park are all within a 45-minute drive.

Admission

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
At least one of the party members must be aged 24 or over.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).
