  • Touring pitches on an Umbrian farm 15 minutes’ drive from Orvieto
  • Lake Corbara five minutes’ drive; Civita di Bagnoregio half an hour
  • Restaurant serving home-produced meats, cheeses and wine
Hike, eat – repeat. If that sounds like your perfect holiday, Agriturismo Pomonte might just be the place for you. Touring pitches at this small farm in the Umbria region come with gorgeous views of forested hillsides and the Apennine Mountains – and perhaps with a new friend in the shape of a resident dog, rabbit or peacock. The site spreads around a stunning stone farmhouse with colourful geraniums on the windowsills. Besides the dreamy location, the highlight of your stay here will likely be the restaurant, which is open from breakfast (when they serve excellent cappuccinos and home-made cakes), through lunch and dinner, when the menu might feature home-made pasta, own-reared meats and seasonal vegetables from the farm. Wash it all down with a glass or three of locally made Orvieto Classico wine… If you like what you taste at the table, you can purchase the farm’s cheese and wine (as well as olive oil) to eat in the comfort of your caravan or to bring home with you. For more souvenirs (of the gastronomic type or other), head into Orvieto (15 minutes’ drive), a renowned centre for artisanal ceramics. After all that home-cooked food, you might well be in need of a stroll to kickstart your digestion. The good news is that there is no shortage of splendid wooded trails around these parts, starting with those around Lake Corbara (five minutes), a man-made reservoir where you can also rent kayaks or fish, as well as spot black kites and other birds of prey.

From the manager: Molto grave è il fatto che sia partito senza pagare. (molto maleducato)
Oltretutto poteva avvertire se non c'era la luce nei bagni. i bidoni ci sono forse non li ha visti.
E mi deve pagare 40,00 Euro

Liked: Beautiful rural location, pitch was nice, space for 6-8 vans, electric and water at pitch. Very friendly staff, lovely restaurant serving local produce - dinner was great as was the local wine. Giorgio did a shuttle run into Orvieto for us which is lovely, stunning cathedral shops and museums. Free lunch time organ recital in the Duomo. To enjoy this site have dinner in the restaurant, reasonably priced and delicious.

Disliked: Shower could have done with a clean but usable. Wifi signal was variable.

Local attractions

Orvieto is a historic town spreading around the imposing Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, built in the 13th century. There are far-reaching views from the Torre del Moro clocktower, while the Pozzo di San Patrizio, just out of town, is a medieval well with two staircases that allow you to go all the way down to the water. Huddling perilously atop a rocky outcrop, the hamlet of Civita di Bagnoregio (half an hour’s drive) is accessed via a tall pedestrian bridge. Those who suffer from vertigo might want to wait till they’re in the village to take in the views of the surrounding landscape of clay hills. Todi (35 minutes) is a hilltop town of Etruscan origin. Medieval buildings (including one housing the collections of the Civic Museum) line the central Piazza del Popolo, and there are spectacular views of the Umbrian hills from the Renaissance Church of Saint Mary of Consolation.
