Even the briefest of flicks through the pics here will give you a strong hint as to why the folk at this Tuscany site felt that Stella del Mare Camping Village was an appropriate name… ‘Star of the sea’ does indeed seem to be a most fitting way to describe this smart and well-equipped coastal site, which is right next to a fab beach that stretches for several kilometres before reaching the little seaside town of Castiglione della Pescaia (10 minutes’ drive). Sun loungers and parasols are set up on the sands for laidback beach days; if you’ve brought your four-legged pal along for a holiday, they too can splash in the sea at the dog-friendly beach area just under a kilometre away. More sun loungers, deckchairs and parasols can be used for free at the site’s open-air pool area, which has been designed with safe family swims in mind: there’s a shallower kids' pool and a lifeguard to keep an eye on proceedings. The entertainment continues into the evening too, with half an hour of baby disco every night to get them tired out for slumbers, and family-friendly evening shows/cabaret acts. Fuel for all this activity comes from the restaurant, which serves up Tuscan dishes, pizzas, veggie offerings and a kids’ menu, plus takeaways for those who’d like to escape back to their own little coastal corner.

Once you’ve spent a bit of time at the beach by the site, set forth for more seaside times exploring the old fishing town Castiglione della Pescaia (10 minutes’ drive) or making a day of it by hopping on a boat trip to the stunning shores of Giglio island from Porto Santo Stefano (an hour and 10 minutes). Intrigued by the history of the Tuscan Maremma? Try pottering around the Medici Fortress and fortified walls in Grosseto (half an hour) or hitting the Iron Museum and Valli Castle in Follonica (20 minutes) – which also has beaches and a splendid waterpark should you need something to entice the small sorts along for the day. Step back in time even further with a wander around the Roselle archaeological site (40 minutes) or plan a day out to Siena (an hour and a half) to see the pretty city’s Piazza del Campo, Torre del Mangia, cathedral and baptistery. Enough of the urban? The trails of Maremma Regional Park, half an hour away, beckon for scenic days of hiking or horse riding.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Changes cannot be made once you have booked.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs are required to wear a muzzle.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
