International, Ispra, Italy. And rather excellent to boot. International Camping Ispra is a holiday village overlooking the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, in a setting famed for family holidays and sporty adventures on and around the country's second biggest lake. There's so (so) much to do around the lake and this slice of Lombardy, from waterskiing and sailing on Maggiore to pootling around the teeny towns of the shoreside, many overlooking the famed Borromean Islands. More urban adventures can be had around Pella, Ronco and Omegna, or you can spend some/many euros bagging Italian fashion around Varese and Novara. The nearest town, Ispra, is under five minutes' drive away. But do (do) take some time on site too. For there's not only direct access to the lake from here, there's a watersports centre with flyboards and e-foils, as well as kayak and pedalo rental. Landlubbing activities are easily sorted at the beach volleyball area, tennis court, basketball court and football pitch, and if you yearn for yet more water the site has a pool with waterslide. Eats? A site this well kitted out most certainly has that sorted also. The restaurant (with spectacular views of the lake and the surrounding mountains from its terrace) is the spot for pasta, pizza, meat, fish and takeaway; for doing it all yourself, the mini market is well stocked with local and international bits. Activities of all sorts run in the summer months – well, you might need to burn off all that pizza... Take your pick from exercise sessions, sports tournaments, water aerobics, baby dance, shows and nightly entertainment, all running alongside the July and August kids' club.

Liked: Liked the pitch size; nice to be given a lakeside pitch.
Great entertainment on the Saturday evening.
Staff were friendly and polite.
Good WiFi!

Disliked: Wasn’t keen on the showering units. Been to better sites that had facilities for men and women. The shower units need updating.
Two washing machines? One of them out of order! It’s a large site.
Very noisy!! Glad to get back to the mountains!
Could not get an evening meal served on the Friday evening due to a function. Would have been nice to have been made aware.

Liked: Les douches sont biens, la piscine également, malgré le fait qu’il faille absolument réserver pour le jacuzzi… le bar est bien, et les serveurs et personnels sont biens et très gentils !

Disliked: Beaucoup de bruits tout le long du séjour, nous sommes restés 6 nuits et n’avons pas bien dormi durant tout le séjour, réveil à 9h30 par le camping obligatoire (l’animatrice crie dans un interphone pour réveiller tout le monde) et musique le soir jusqu’à 23h30…
Il n’y a pas grand chose à faire aux alentours.. les informations pour les activités ne sont pas claires.. malheureusement et cela est personnel nous étions à un emplacement avec électricité et seulement les câbles pour brancher aux caravanes étaient acceptés, une prise normale ne rentrait pas dans les prises… donc nous n’avons pas pu utiliser l’électricité alors que nous l’avions payé, également l’emplacement était au soleil toute la journée…

Disliked: The site was very run down. Pitch was water logged and very close to others, with no outlook. Facilities were in need of a complete refurbishment. We decided not to stay, as it was not what we expected

Local attractions

The spectacular sights and activities of Lake Maggiore will probably take up much of your time here, but if you're up for exploring further, International Camping Ispra is within easy day trip distance of other local lakes. Head south for about 20 minutes to reach Lake Comabbio and its lakeshore bike path, running for 12 and a half kilometres from its starting point at Ternate. Going east, it's about half an hour from the site to Lake Orto and its medieval settlement of Orta San Giulio; and if you're up for the hour and a half drive, the glacial waters of splendid Lake Lugano are to the north east. Back at Maggiore, loop around the southern shore of the lake and up to its western one to get to Stresa, for boat trips to the Borromean Islands.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
