A clearing in the woods, surrounded by trees and with a stream running past for extra rural charm… now, doesn’t that just sound like a fabulous spot for an outdoor break? This very picture is what’s on offer at Camping Rio Requesa, a quiet Liguria site on the banks of the Rio Requesa, 15 minutes' drive from Varese Ligure. The woods around the site provide a good amount of shelter from the weather, as well as a place to chill out in a hammock. Kids are welcome to play games in the woods, and you’ll also be able to gather wood there for an evening at the campfire area. The Dutch owners of this small site have made efforts to preserve the natural atmosphere, while also providing enough facilities to keep guests happy throughout their stay. The raised wooden swimming pool (filled with chlorine-free water) is likely to be a welcome sight indeed on a warm day, and the kids are also likely to be delighted to see a sandpit, swings, mini go-karts and various games including badminton. Food is a vital part of the setup too: the hosts cook up big pots of fresh pasta and homemade sauce for sociable meals at least once a week, and there are fresh rolls and sandwiches to order each morning too. Ice creams and coffees are available at reception, and there’s also an honesty bar for other drinks and snacks. Rio Requesa makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby coast, and the team on site are full of great ideas and info for days out; they’ll also happily help you book outings like horse riding or dolphin spotting.

Liked: Zeer fijne plek midden in de bergen, echt een goede locatie om even tot rust te komen. Ook vergeleken met de andere plaatsen, fijne temperatuur ‘s nachts om goed door te kunnen slapen.
Vriendelijk ontvangst van de campingbeheerders en de volgende ochtend een lekker crossaintje die voor ons klaar stond!

Disliked: Het was via de navigatie (kaarten) via Apple erg lastig te vinden, doe dit via Google maps!

Liked: Very relaxed, very much immersed in nature! Lovely to have the river so close to enjoy with the children. Great walks surrounding the area. Friendly staff who kept the site very well.

Disliked: Unfortunately, we were placed in the shade for our pitch!

Liked: We arrived late and in the dark so didn't get to see very much of the site, but the facilities were good. Clean toilets and nice hot showers.
The swimming pool is a bonus although we didn't personally use it.
The setting is remote and peaceful with lots of space between the pitches.

Disliked: I do feel the pitch was overpriced compared to other sites we used during out stay.

Disliked: Les coordonnées GPS était faussent, très difficile d'accès pour un camping car
un van encore mais ........

Liked: Nous avons aimé ce camping, les personnes qui s occupent du camping sont chaleureux et à notre écoute.
C est un camping convivial et bien pensé, ils ont amenage des petits endroits cosy.
On n aime entendre le petit ruisseau qui passe juste à côté…
Les emplacements sont spacieux.

Disliked: Ayant de grands enfants, le problème de réseau a été le petit bémol !

Liked: Sehr schöne Campinganlage, sehr ruhig und abgelegen, Handynetz war nicht immer verfügbar, hat für Ruhe gesorgt. Die Sanitäranlagen waren sehr sauber und ordentlich, die Mitarbeiter sehr freundlich. Sogar für nur eine Übernachtung war der Campingplatz offen.

Disliked: Die Anfahrt… Aufgrund der engen, teilweise sehr zugewachsenen Wege ist die Anfahrt für größere Wohnmobile etwas erschwert, beziehungsweise nicht empfehlenswert. Wer mit Zelt und Auto unterwegs ist, ist hingegen gut aufgehoben.

Liked: What an extraordinary campsite - probably the most remote I have experienced. Wonderful welcome from owners. Refreshing lack of rules. Definitely make the effort to climb the hill to Rita’s pizza. Maybe take a walking stick. Highly recommended.

Disliked: Not exactly disliked, but approach was testing for large motorhome. Very narrow tortuous roads on drive in, and drive quite a challenge. But well worth the effort. Allow plenty of time.

Local attractions

Getting out to explore the area might involve putting your boots on and heading out for a hike (ask on site for route ideas) or joining an outing with a local horse riding stables. There are also lakes nearby to swim in, or you can climb up into the trees at Adventure Park in Val di Vara (20 minutes’ drive). Wandering through nearby villages is another great way to get a taste of the area – the ‘circular town’ of Varese Ligure (15 minutes) is a good place to start, with a castle, colourful houses and a well-preserved medieval centre. Maissana (10 minutes) and Torza (20 minutes) are also pretty places – and of course you shouldn’t miss the stunning colourful coastal villages of Cinque Terre (an hour). Other day trips might take you along the coast to smart Portofino and the lively city of Genoa, or inland to historic Pisa and Lucca – all are about an hour and a half away by car.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Changes to your holiday

Changes cannot be made once you have booked.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.
