Active travellers, nature seekers and families all gather together for splendid Saarland holidays at Camping Losheim am See, a spacious 25-acre site on the edge of the village of Losheim am See. This location is a particularly fine one for an outdoor break – it’s a couple of kilometres from the village centre, so you’ll be within easy reach of shops, restaurants, bus stops and the train station. Heading a little further afield, it’s only a short drive to top spots like the Saarschleife treetop walk, the fantastic views from Saar Polygon and the UNESCO-listed Völklingen Ironworks. Not that you have to go that far to start taking in the scenery – this site is in the midst of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park, with heaps of hiking and bike trails starting just behind the site and setting off into the forest, and the long-distance Saar-Hunsrück Climb not far off (try one of the ‘dream loops’ that run from the main trail if you can’t manage the whole 250 miles). And there’s more… because you’ll be staying right on the banks of Losheim Reservoir too, with access to the water for swimming, sailing and paddleboarding (or a circuit of the lake on foot if you’d rather stay dry). For kids that need even more activity, there’s also a play area and miniature golf on site, plus a restaurant and takeaway to provide fuel for all the family’s antics. Other amenities on site include a food shop, a launderette, showers and toilets, and you’ll be allowed to bring along barbecues or start campfires to keep warm in the evening.

Liked: The campsite was really good. Toilets and showers were excellent. Staff were very friendly.

Disliked: The laundry service is supplied by a company called wewash . There are two service facilities on site. There is no information as to which unit you are in when trying to use washing machines. We logged into their system, payed for laundry. Selected the only option in our location. Turns out, we had selected the second wash area. Conclusion was, we paid for a service we could not use, presumably due to lack of information available on site. Automation without sufficient information. A simple sign telling users which machine they are trying to use in order to select same on ‘we wash’ online system would solve this very frustrating problem!

Liked: Good location, lovely lake right next to the campsite. Good toilet and shower facilities. Water available in a lot of different places. Very friendly staff.

Disliked: The campsite is unlit in most spots, good torch required. On arrival we were not informed that a card to get in and out of campsite is required, when we went on a walk we got locked out and had to walk all the way round (not too much of a problem as we like a walk). There was a cycling event going on which we were not informed about prior, it was very loud and very crowded

Liked: Lovely site, best part for us was the access to the lake, we’ve been paddleboarding every day (we did spot a hire place on the far end of the site so make sure to ask about this if you don’t have your own boards, it wasn’t obvious if you were on the other side of the camp we just happened upon it). There are lots of tarmac paths about around the lake so great for short bike rides with children. Staff have been very helpful and we had a great stay.

Disliked: Nothing really!

Local attractions

Make sure you’ve brought your boots or your bikes along – there are plenty of great trails to follow around here, whether you’re just after a short outing into the forest, a tour of the lake or a more extensive hike along the Saar-Hunsrück Climb. A popular highlight around here is the Saarschleife Treetop Walk (25 minutes’ drive), which follows a trail of a little over a kilometre to a 23-metre-high observation tower that has some stunning views over the trees and the river below. Other favourite outings nearby take guests to places like Montclair Castle (20 minutes), to Wolf Park Werner Freund (20 minutes) or to some more outstanding views at Saar Polygon (40 minutes). The Völklingen Ironworks (40 minutes) is well worth a visit too – this fascinating place has won a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list as the world's only fully preserved ironworks. Still got days to fill? How about a trip over the border to Luxembourg (an hour), or to France for a day in Metz (an hour and 10 minutes) and Nancy (an hour and 45 minutes)?

Unsupervised minors must have a letter of authorisation from their parents or legal guardian.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Dogs

Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

Extras

Motorbike(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

General

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/04 and 31/10.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Public areas are non-smoking.
Quiet hours must be respected between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m..
The grocery shop is open between 01/04 and 30/11.
