  • Scenic family-run campsite with mountain views in Savoy
  • In the centre of Challes-les-Eaux; Chambéry 15 minutes' drive
  • On-site restaurant in high season; guests' lounge and outdoor games
A warm Savoyard welcome awaits at this friendly campsite in Challes-les-Eaux, where the outgoing Coquelle family look forward to making you feel right at home in this gorgeous region of eastern France. Family Camping Le Savoy is a haven of peace right in the centre of Challes-les-Eaux, an attractive town just 15 minutes' drive from the bigger city of Chambéry. People have come to relax and kick back here for well over a century – as reflected by the genteel architecture on display at the casino and cinema. This well-maintained site has pleasantly green grounds and access to a range of helpful facilities, including an on-site restaurant (open in the high season), a guests' lounge where you can chat with fellow travellers and a collection of outdoor games. Dogs on leads are welcome, and handily there's a secure dog park on site just for them. Further amenities like toilets and showers (including disabled facilities), a laundry room and a kids' play area are also within a short walk of the pitches. Away from base, shops, restaurants, a cinema, a pharmacy and parks can be reached within a few minutes' walk.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch (comfort)

Liked The campsite was clean, had good lounge and washing facilities etc

Disliked The pitches were gravel and concrete. It was impossible to pitch a tent as you couldn't get pegs into the ground. Eventually we found a pitch with a small area of grass in the corner and managed to put up our tent with very few pegs. The site is not suitable for tents and your advertising of it is inaccurate. The name of your site (pitchup) implies tent camping.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch (premium, private bathroom amenities)

Liked Great site - ie location easy walking into centre and Chambrey was a short bus journey away.

Private shower and toilet was excellent and extreamly clean.

Staff were very helpful.

Disliked The tree branches are far to low for most motorhomes, would suggest they are cut before the high season as could damage vehicles

Would also suggest that staff advise people who have pitches where the fresh water, waste water and toilet cassette areas are - these were not obvious to find.

Ended up taking waste water with us as could not get to it in our motorhome as cars were parked ( from the villas) in the way and no idea who’s they were - such a shame that this parking is not monitored.

The staff are lovely The views are amazing Lovely clean campsite Loved our premium pitch…

Local attractions

The city of Chambéry (15 minutes' drive; buses also available) was once the capital of Savoy, and there are plenty of grand buildings around the place that reflect its historic importance. The best-known landmark here is probably the Fontaine des Éléphants, an elaborate elephant statue from the 19th century, but it's also well worth taking the time to go off the tourist trail and explore the narrow old town alleys and genteel arcaded streets that surround the centre. The shimmering shores of Lac du Bourget (20 minutes) are about 15 kilometres away; tourist shuttle buses run between Chambéry city centre and its most popular beaches in the high season. After some swimming, watersports or perhaps a lakeside bike ride, you could carry on the sporty theme with an archery lesson (15 minutes) or (if you’ve got a head for heights) with some paragliding over the mountains of Savoy and Isère (25 minutes). Town and city day trips are easily arranged at Family Camping Le Savoy too – it's roughly 25 minutes to gorgeous Aix-les-Bains, 45 minutes to elegant Annecy and just over an hour's drive to Geneva or Lyon.
