Five-hectare family site on the edge of Écrins National Park
Among spectacular scenery close to the Alpe d'Huez

Cyclists, bring your wheels. RCN Belledonne's slice of the French Alps is famed for the hills and peaks of the Tour de France: you can see Alpe d'Huez from the park, and plenty more challenging bike rides are in the Écrins National Park to the site's south-eastern edge. And if your wheels are looking less than sprightly for the challenge? A bike workshop is to hand on site. If you're not a Lycra type, or seek more serene pursuits while on holiday, ta very much, you'll be pleased to hear that RCN Belledonne is also close to cable car and donkey rides, wildlife watching and safaris, gentle hacks on horseback, and scenery spotting around Grenoble, the local mountain passes and right from the grounds among spectacular Alp sunsets. Have a gander at the site pics for a glimpse of your stunning green and mountainous setting, where there's also a fab pool with peaked backdrop, loads of space for kids to play, and sun right into the evening on most days. There's a paddling pool, a playground and a summer kids' club for tiddlers too, and a sauna and hammam for restful grownup (or post-Tour cycling) times. Tennis, pétanque and volleyball courts are also on site. RCN Belledonne is a short stroll from the Isère department commune of Le Bourg-d'Oisans – where, fittingly, you can rent a bike if you're tackling the heady challenge up Alpe d'Huez – and about an hour from the Alps skiing capital of Grenoble. It has a restaurant, a bar and a snack bar; the nearest supermarket is seven kilometres away.

Beautiful scenery 2 minutes from belledonne

A nice place to stay. Staff were friendly and spoke good English.

Close to cycle paths
Heated swimming pool, though not used due to weather
Bar/restaurant on site, reasonable price
Hot showers

Disliked: Only available shower block was poorly lit
Disabled facilities located in laundry room but need attention as no hooks for hanging clothing, coats etc
No soap or hand drier, needed if using WC only in disabled room.
Not really ostomate friendly but could 'make do' in main shower block (very few had tiny shelf).

Liked: Lots of facilities. Never had to queue for toilets, showers etc. all equipment worked very well. Staff very attentive and helpful. Site quiet by 10.30 which suited us oldies. Our pitch was generous in size and well shaded which suited the heat very well.

Disliked: These are personal dislikes and are in no way negative complaints but as an older couple these views may help other older couples with their decision making.
Disliked the dark interior of one facilities block. The alternative block was much more inviting.
The sheer size and busy nature of the site. For us smaller is better.
No working shower at the swimming pool.

Liked: Excellent site, friendly helpful staff, facilities good and clean. Lovely pool area. On-site shop stayed open until late as well as the bar area which was great. Sauna which you can book privately was a good addition.

Disliked: Showers were a bit cold. Pool areas should be monitored a bit more as there were kids diving in and out all over the place, not so great if you have little ones or are not a confident swimmer.

Local attractions

Get on your bike to pedal/puff up local Tour de France routes including Alpe d'Huez and the nearby Col de la Croix de Fer: if you opt for the former, pick up a certificate from the tourist office at the top of the peak to display your achievement proudly when back at home. You can take a cable car to the top of Alpe d'Huez too (certificates, sadly, not available for this transport mode), and others to the peak of Les Deux Alpes and around Grenoble. Less heady options include wanders around the rivers, reservoirs, waterfalls and glaciers of the Écrins National Park; driving along the spectacularly scenic Route Napoléon, running from Grenoble along to the coast at Cannes; or heading out on a RCN Belledonne wildlife safari to look for marmots around the Col de Sarbonne. Back to heady adventures… try the treetop courses at Vénosc, 15 minutes' drive away, or plunge into a guided gorge walking tour among the Alps, for a day of hiking, climbing, swimming and abseiling: ask the RCN Belledonne team for tips on booking.

Admission

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Extras

Motorbike(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Quiet hours must be respected between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m..
Radio, music and TV players must be kept at a low volume. Car doors and boots must be closed quietly.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.
The site is not liable for any refund in the event of force majeure.
