Heading for the Île d’Oléron in search of some gorgeous sea views, plus some proper peaceful space? Take a look at Camping Phare Ouest, on the edge of Saint-Denis d’Oléron, right up at the very tip of this lovely nature-filled island. Being right up at the far end of the island means this site has a fabulously remote and relaxed vibe – something that’s further boosted by the gorgeous ocean views and access to a beach just next door. It’s a nicely landscaped and leafy place in private parkland with lots of mature trees, and it’s within easy strolling distance of several local landmarks including Chassiron Lighthouse and the Brée-les-Bains salt marshes. Down on the beach there’s a playground for younger kids and a multisports ground with basketball hoops and handball goals to keep teenagers out of mischief. And if you’re not a fan of swimming in the sea, no worries – the site also has a palm-tree-lined pool complex with waterslides and a paddling pool, a Jacuzzi and a suntrap deck with loungers. For a bit more activity, have a game of pétanque or take to the jogging track that wends its way around the campsite. Saint-Denis d’Oléron has all the amenities you need for carefree holidays, including shops, a daily market (in summer) and cruises from the marina, where you can also hire boats, bikes, scooters and quad bikes to explore the rest of the island. Shuttle boats also connect the village to La Rochelle on the mainland, Île d’Aix, Île de Ré and Fort Boyard.

Liked: We liked how you got your own little area that was formed by bushes give loads of privacy.

Disliked: The whole site was very unkempt, the toilet block especially wants updated and a good clean.
The site needs a good overhaul to get it up to standard, we stayed in a cheaper site which was so well kept shower blocks toilet blocks and wash up areas were cleaned about 4 times pre day.
I wouldn’t return to phase ouest but I would return to the island as it’s beautiful the town has a market every morning which sells lots of fresh food

Camping sympa et familiale .
Le principal est présent sur le site.
Une piscine agréable .
Le camping est bien situé proche du centre ville et mer au pied du camping.

Pas d'animation ni de quoi boire ou manger au camping donc le prix de l'emplacement reste élevé par rapport aux services proposés.
Problématique de bruit de certains campeurs et pas de personnel pour recadrer les personnes irrespectueuses

Liked: Lage ist sehr gut am Ortsrand von St. Denis d'Oleron. Der Weg zu den Stränden von Les Huettes ist kurz. Alles war funktional. Die Stellplätze waren großzügig und durch Büsche angenehm teilbeschattet. Die sanitären Anlagen sind in die Jahre gekommen. Die Duschen lieferten genug heißes Wasser. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis war sehr gut,

Liked: Nothing at all. Would be zero stars if possible.

Site not really open; no reception and no one to talk to. Pool half full of dirty water and machines working to clear overgrown pitches.

Left after 20 minutes and requested refund of deposit. Still no response from site or pitch up.

Very disappointing.

Local attractions

You’ll easily be able to walk or bike around several of the attractions up at this end of the island – Chassiron Lighthouse and its beach are about half an hour away on foot, as is the beach in Saint-Denis d’Oléron. Have a stroll around the market and marina while you’re in town, and see what’s on offer in terms of boat trips to Fort Boyard and the other neighbouring islands. Other nice places to have a walk nearby include the salt marshes around La Brée-les-Bains (10 minutes’ drive), the seaside trails and beaches of Prairie des Anges (20 minutes) and the birdwatching hub of Natural Reserve Moëze-Oléron (40 minutes). Of course, there are also lots of lovely beaches to explore on this laidback island – perhaps you fancy cycling to Plage des Huttes (15 minutes by bike) or Plage de Chaucre (25 minutes), maybe also taking a short diversion to see Moulin de La Brée (15 minutes). For a grander slice of history, wander around the gardens of Chateau de Bonnemie (15 minutes’ drive) and admire its classic turrets, then visit Musée de l'Ile d'Oléron (20 minutes).

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Changes to your holiday

Changes cannot be made once you have booked.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
