The little Charente-Maritime town of Esnandes is a special spot, with the coastline of Aiguillon Bay on one side and the wetlands of the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park on the other. That means a break here gives you access to all sorts of gorgeous landscapes, whether you’re looking out to sea or exploring the inland waterways on a small boat. On the edge of this little town is Camping Animal King, a small site that’s equally well placed for the beach (just over a kilometre away) and the town’s shop, bakery and restaurant. There’s a long history of mussel cultivation in the town too, so it’s a great idea to seek out some seafood at the restaurant by the beach at least once. This location gives you easy access to lots of lovely parts of the coastline, including the lovely islands of Oléron, Aix and Île de Ré. The gateway to all of these is La Rochelle, 20 minutes’ drive away and also an excellent place to find attractions, activities and places to eat. The campsite has been kept to a manageable size, so you won't be crammed in with lots of other people. Shower and toilet facilities have been provided, along with an outdoor pool where you can have a nice refreshing dip after a long day out. Dogs are welcome, and you should be able to find plenty of places to walk them nearby.

Der Stellplatz lag zentral.
Pool ist frisch, aber er benötigt ein makeover!
Sie Stimmung auf dem Platz ist sehr entspannt, während unseren Aufenthalts gab es ein wunderbares Konzert.
Die Duschen waren okay - etwas mehr Ablagemöglichkeit wäre klasse.

Disliked Die Toiletten waren eine Katastrophe-zu wenig Toiletten für die Anzahl an Besuchern. Mittags waren sie schon nicht mehr nutzbar.

Leider kein Strand in der Nähe!

Disliked Les emplacements sont loin d'être comme il en est décrit au moment de la réservation, on est un peu les uns sur les autres aucune intimité, les branchements électriques sont loin d'être réglementaire et même dangereux des rallonges électriques raccordées les unes aux autres, à même le sol, difficile de ne pas se prendre les pieds dedans.pour ce qui est de la piscine, elle n'est pas au normes non plus, le sol est en mauvais état,le carrelage est cassé alors, c'est pas sécurisant. La situation géographique " il y a pas de plage" à moins de prendre sa voiture.

Grande piscine

Disliked Les emplacements sont minuscules et pas délimités. On a l'impression d'être collé les uns aux autres. Peu d'ombre. Pas assez de toilettes et douches par rapport à la taille du camping.
Nous avons pris des douches froides 2 jours d'affilée car pas assez de cumulus d'eau chaude pour enchaîner les douches.

La piscine est grande mais le tour est composé de pierres complètement délabrées

Il y avait un code wifi malheureusement le wifi captait uniquement autour de la réception

Liked L'accueil du personnel, le calme du camping malgré que nous sommes pas tombé sur les bons voisins (musique maghrébine du 9h a minuit) et la piscine est un plus même si les tout petits n'ont pied nul part

Liked Lovely friendly campsite. It is basic, however, it does have a pool and a snack bar. It is really quiet and relaxing, great value for money. The owner has only just taken over the site and has renovation plans.

Disliked Toilet block is adequate, however, the owner has revamp plans. Don't let that put you off.

Local attractions

A good place to start nearby is at the House of the Bay of the Marais Poitevin (10 minutes’ walk) for an insight into the area’s history and its role in the development of commercial mussel cultivation. More history is on display at Fort Boyard, commissioned by Louis XIV in the17th century. The offshore fortress can be visited on a boat trip from Rochefort (45 minutes’ drive). Elsewhere along the coast, you may like to play a round of golf with a sea view on the 18-hole course at Golf la Rochelle La Prée (10 minutes) or spend a day in La Rochelle (20 minutes), visiting the aquarium and maritime museum or tackling the treetop trails of Vertigo Parc La Rochelle Aventure. Alternatively, cross the bridges to explore Île de Ré (20 minutes) or Oléron (an hour). Turning your attention inland is a good idea too, because the lush green landscapes of the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park are rather gorgeous. This area, often known as ‘Green Venice' because of its network of waterways, is a wildlife haven alive with birds, butterflies and dragonflies. There are walking and bike trails through the park, or you can join boat tours in Arçais (45 minutes).
