Whether you’re just passing through on your way from the Channel ports to the south of France, or staying around to tour some of the WWI cemeteries and memorials, Camping Le Vélodrome is a little patch of peaceful greenery 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of Albert in the department of Somme. With spacious grass pitches sheltered by trees and divided by hedges for extra privacy, this landscaped site has facilities including a spotless shower block, a pétanque court and a quiet garden for putting your feet up and having a snooze. The pitches sit next to a brace of ponds where you can fish, stroll the leafy waterside and hire a pedal boat to explore the shoreline. Any cyclists among you can make a lap or two of the local sports track (five minutes’ walk), where there’s also a games pitch for kicking a ball around and a play area for the kids. Foodwise, you can pick up barbecue supplies from the local hypermarket (five minutes’ drive), or take a stroll into Albert to its welcoming bistros and cafés.

Liked: Pleasant welcome - really nice English speaking man on reception. Close to town, nice walks close to site for dog.

Disliked: Toilet facilities were not good, bar was a shed with outside seating, no security, gate was left open all
Night.

Liked: Sehr freundliches Personal, was aber auch schon das einige Positive ist.

Disliked: Check-In Zeiten stimmen nicht überein - angegeben war bis 20 Uhr, kurz nach 19 Uhr standen wir am Platz und niemand war dort, die angegebene Telefonnummer war auch nicht erreichbar. Die zweite Nummer, die mit dem Bestätigungsmail mitgeschickt wurde, konnte ich schließlich erreichen. Das Sanitätshäuschen ist veraltet und total dreckig. Es gibt keinerlei Ablageflächen oder Haken bei den WCs, um die Toilettenpapierrolle abzulegen oder Jacke aufzuhängen. Außerdem funktionierte das Waschbecken bei den Toiletten nicht. Das Wasser zum Geschirr abwaschen war kalt bis lauwarm. Die Duschen dreckig und veraltet.

Liked: Great location on the edge of town. Close to a lake and nice walks. Convenient for town just over 10 minutes walk away. Albert is a nice town with pubs and restaurants. Lots history and an ideal location if your planning to visit World War 1 sites around the Somme area.

Liked: Beautiful location, very peaceful but a 10 min walk into the town square. Loved the animals. Lady on reception was so kind and friendly.

Disliked: No laundry facilities but not that huge an issue. Only stating incase others need to wash clothes

Liked: Great site, quiet location in the edge of the small town of Albert, walking distance into town, and ideally situated for exploring the Somme.

Clean facilities, welcoming staff. We had a lovely stay here, albeit very brief, and plan to return.

Disliked: Main shower block is better for hot water than the small cabin further up the site.

La réceptionniste était sympathique

Disliked: le bloc sanitaire n’était pas très propre, les poubelles n’étaient pas faciles à trouver, les branches en surplomb sur la chaussée

Liked: Friendly welcoming staff, and close to the town of Albert. Well placed for visiting cemeteries and memorials in the region. Nice lake/nature reserve next to the site for walks. The bread machine was great!
This is a nice site with basic facilities (no soap or paper, and a bit dark until the lighting came on later in the evening) but clean.

Local attractions

Set the scene for a tour of the Somme battlefields with a visit to the Musée Somme 1916 (10 minutes’ walk) in Albert, with informative subterranean displays of weapons and military uniforms as well as recreations of the wartime trenches. From there, you are within easy reach of the Thiepval Memorial (10 minutes’ drive), Pozières Memorial and Cemetery (five minutes) and the carefully tended ranks of graves in Caterpillar Valley Cemetery (15 minutes). Historic Arras (40 minutes) has plenty of WWI memorials too, evident when you visit the Carrière Wellington, a network of tunnels dug from medieval chalk quarries by the Allies. Going further back in time, it’s also worth stopping by the sprawling, star-shaped Citadelle d’Arras, built by military architect Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban in 1672. If you’re travelling with kids, head for lively Amiens (35 minutes) to see big cats and red pandas at the Zoo d’Amiens Métropole, visit the Jules Verne House – former home of the madcap sci-fi writer – and climb to the top of the landmark Beffroi d’Amiens for views over city rooftops.

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Changes cannot be made once you have booked.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
