Sea-based activities, hiking and biking are all ahead of you from Camping La Maison Blanche in the marvellous Marais Breton Vendéen. Relaxation too, if the semi-shaded site and golden-sand beaches seven kilometres away are anything to go by… There’s a lot of scope for adventures beginning at this dog-friendly and family-friendly place, that’s for sure. Get exploring on foot or with the aid of a pair of wheels – there are many cycling paths and hiking trails in the surrounding area, as well as marked routes made for horseback riders or a skiff (a small rowing boat) on the waterways. When you’re dreaming of the sand, and you want it fast, the closest beaches are Plage des Demoiselles (10 minutes’ drive), Plage des Becs (15 minutes) and Plage des Lays (20 minutes). All over the coastline, there’s a wide choice of sea-based activities: sailing, sea fishing, sea kayaking, scuba diving or surfing, if you fancy. On dry land, you might prefer to try your hand at mini golf (around 10 minutes' drive away) or join in with the summer festivities that often take place in the local coastal towns. The site itself has a heated outdoor swimming pool that’s open in high season only (1 July-31 August), just the thing for a family holiday. Any poolside snacks will be easy to source with an assortment of shops around Le Perrier and several within five minutes’ walk of the site. The area, which has plenty of water scenery, is well-known for its natural features and peaceful atmosphere.

Liked: The campsite is very relaxed, the pool area was clean, it looked recently decorated and the sun loungers were comfortable and also looked new. The grass around the site was all cut and the hedges all looked neat. The play area was great and had a large trampoline that my daughter loved playing on.

We didn’t use the toilet/showers so can’t comment on those as we used our own in the Motorhome.

Disliked: At check-in the lady who greeted us was quite rude, saying she was having her lunch. I explained and showed her the email from Pitchup saying we can arrive from 11:30, she said I’m wrong and was very annoyed at me. Anyway we were allowed in and told to choose a pitch and go back at 3 to pay etc; went back at 3 and reception was closed; she came back after 4pm.

We decided to stay another night and she said because it’s quiet we can leave anytime on check-out day. We were eating a late lunch on check-out day just before 3pm, the lady came over and asked why we were still there, we did try to say she said we can stay until anytime but she said no we had to leave now.

Her behaviour was very strange and very confusing for us, didn’t leave a good impression I’m afraid.

Liked: La sympathie de la gérante , les activitées proposés à notre fille ( piscine , trampoline, petit parc et salle climatisée avec télévision à disposition. Le choix libre de choisir son emplacement .

Local attractions

Whether you’re with family or with friends, you’re likely to bond over a journey over Le Passage du Gois (25 minutes’ drive). This natural causeway, just over four kilometres in length, is covered by the tide at certain times, so you’ll only have a short window to travel from the salt marsh of Beauvoir sur Mer to the island of Noirmoutier. Once you’re on the island, there are sandy beaches, a 12th-century castle and aquarium to explore. It’s not the only island around, though. Île d'Yeu (an hour and 50 minutes, including a ferry journey) is certainly spectacular, and known for its tasty tuna and lobster. Protected bird species, remote beaches and a busy fishing port are some of its other staples. You might be looking for some simple entertainment closer to the site too. Some great family-friendly options are Atlantic Toboggan SARL (15 minutes), which has pools, slides and tube rides, or Feeling Forest (15 minutes), which has high ropes courses.

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Changes cannot be made once you have booked.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Pitches: a €30.00 (£25.21) deposit is required on arrival and will be refunded on departure when returning the gate badge/barrier pass/toilet keys.

Please note there is no lifeguard on duty.

Reception is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. between 01/04 and 30/10.
