Activities on the lake

  • Spacious site on the banks of a large lake in Mansigné
  • Within a half-hour drive of Le Mans race track and Zoo de la Flèche
  • Watersports, lake beach and pool (closed Mondays) on site
Want to get right in among the action on hols? How about a splendid Sarthe stay right next door to a lake and leisure centre – that's really rather handy indeed... It’s handy indeed if you’re up for aquatic antics, as Base de Loisirs de Mansigné, in the little Pays de la Loire town of Mansigné, is right on the banks of a huge 30-hectare lake. Direct access to the water means all sorts of activity options (fishing, sailing, canoeing, paddleboarding…) within the park, along with a sandy beach area to laze on once you’re ready for a rest. You may even choose to go leaping into the lake for a swim (such things are supervised in the summer months), but if that doesn’t appeal there’s also the prospect of the municipal swimming pool (closed on Mondays) – it’s on site, free for guests and has a kids’ pool for those not quite of an age to get in the lake. Away from all the watery pursuits there are games of pétanque and a playground on site, plus further games scattered elsewhere around the lake (table tennis, tennis and miniature golf, for starters). All of this may well (understandably) keep you rather busy, but it’s well worth allowing a little time for some wider explores. Hire bikes on site for local pedalling or set your sights on something a little further away with a zoo day, château outing or action-packed day watching the speed demons at the Le Mans racing circuit (all of which are within a half-hour drive… without getting anywhere near the speed of the motor racing types).

What customers say

Guests appreciated the quiet atmosphere and the pleasant walk around the lake, along with clean facilities. The welcome was described as very good. However, significant issues were reported with reception being unstaffable, leading to cancellations, and a lack of English-speaking staff causing communication difficulties. Availability of nearby dining options was also a concern for some visitors.

From the manager: I have noted your message and apologize on the camping, as the agent had to step away. However, you could have reached an on-call agent via the emergency line, which redirects to a mobile phone. Once again, I am sorry for this inconvenience.

Local attractions

Le Mans (25 minutes’ drive) is famed as the location for its 24-hour motor race, but that’s not the only event staged there, so consider swinging by to see the race car museum or check out the schedule in advance to see if you can pick up tickets for any of the adrenaline-pumping action. And there’s more in Le Mans too – including a cobbled historic centre, a Gallo-Roman turreted wall and a fab cathedral. If those sorts of historic wanders appeal, consider also a trip to Château de la Lude (15 minutes) or scoot down to the banks of the Loire at Angers (an hour) for a massive medieval château with a hefty 17 towers. Impressed by some of the pretty things you’ve seen as you stroll? Slope off to the ceramics museum Faïenceries d'Art de Malicorne (15 minutes) to view production in action and buy your own little bits to admire. Folk more entertained by the natural world will want instead to head off to Zoo de la Flèche (20 minutes), one of the country’s biggest animal parks.
