  • Set over 11 hectares in manicured grounds of a 19th-century château
  • A 35-minute drive from the Calais and Dunkirk channel crossings
  • Two pools, outdoor gym, pizza bar and cosy bar and restaurant
Peaceful, green and spectacularly scenic... Camping Château du Gandspette is a quiet countryside site set among the grounds of a 19th-century château, across 11 hectares of bloom-filled wooded parkland in the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park. The Calais and Dunkirk channel crossings are 35 minutes' drive away. This park’s pleasant woodland setting makes for a pristinely peaceful stay: the site has spacious and landscaped pitches surrounded by mature trees, loads of green space and lots of blooms and hedges. Leisurewise, there are two outdoor pools (one heated), ping pong tables and tennis courts, as well as a multisports area and an outdoor gym; activities run in high season too. Food is well sorted at the site’s well-appointed summer bar and restaurant, serving grilled meats and regional specialities such as Flemish carbonnade and potjevleesch, and at the snack bar for pizza and fries to eat in or take away. The bar and its viewsome terrace is where you can sink a drink or two (while watching major sports fixtures, if that’s your leisurely bent). And if the scenery isn’t enough to rouse you from your slumber? Freshly baked bread is on sale every summer morn.

What customers say

A beautiful and well-maintained site set in pleasant grounds with spacious pitches. Facilities, including showers and toilets, are consistently praised for their cleanliness. Guests highlight the friendly and helpful staff, particularly Julien at reception, and the excellent amenities for all ages, including swimming pools and play areas. Its convenient location near Calais and the Channel Tunnel makes it an ideal stopover. While generally highly recommended, minor points include pitch leveling and limited vegetarian options in the restaurant.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked A lovely site, the man on reception was so friendly, he immediately made us feel relaxed and welcome. Good sized grassy plots, great takeaway food service. Lovely park with bouncy castle, as well as swimming pools, tennis court, boules and table tennis facilities. We would definitely use this site again and only 30 minutes from Calais ferry port, it was ideal.
The shower, toilet and washing up block was one of the best we have ever had.

Disliked Nothing at all

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Clean and spacious site. Good facilities. We didn't get a chance to ise the pool but it looked fantastic. We had pizza and chips from the on site takeaway which was OK. Very handy for the tunnel or ferry. I would definitely book here again.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Location was great. 35 mins to shuttle. 1.5 hours to Brugges. 2.25 hours to brussels. Great park and great pool. Washing machines and tumble dryer were great! Facilities were clean and spider free.

Disliked Lots of English people. Baker wasn't the best we had while travelling around France. I think the higher cost isn't worth it. As your paying for convenience of location.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Facilities were spotless, restaurant staff were amazing, Absolutely loved the pools. My son was never bored. Location was great and access was easy. The lady on reception was really welcoming and made me feel very welcome

Disliked Older gent in the reception, could have been the manager, could learn some customer communication skills. Spoke to me in a very rude manner (telling me I had to move my vehicle because it was blocking the road, immediately, When I went out, there were no vehicles waiting to pass and the road was completely clear. He really did not make me feel welcome. Not the best start to the holiday.

Warning that the pitches are mostly inclined so I could be prepared for it.

Local attractions

The region is well served by road, rail and sea connections, including services such as the Eurostar and several from major Channel maritime operators. Camping Château du Gandspette is 45 minutes’ drive from the Calais-Fréthun high-speed rail international station too, making one-hour journeys to London, 30-minute journeys to Lille and two-hour journeys to Brussels and Paris a cinch. The site’s Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park setting is tiptop for hikes and bike rides around the area, with the GR 128 hiking trail (between Wissant in France and Gand in Belgium) within easy reach. Horse riding, fishing and golf are available in Ruminghem and St Omer, and for kid-friendly days out, bowling, go-karting and theme parks such as Dennlys Parc at Dennebroeucq and Plopsaland de Panne in Belgium are all within an hour’s drive. History buffs can take a trip to the Eperlecques Blockhouse, a kilometre from base, and the La Coupole bunker complex (aka the St Omer Dome) is less than 20 minutes’ drive away. Other war memorial sites and points of interest well worth a trip to include the Fortress of Mimoyecques, the 1939-1945 Museum at Ambleteuse, the Memorial Museum at Calais, the Atlantic Wall Museum in Audinghen and the Memorial Museum at Dunkirk.
