A good spot for anyone looking to experience a taste of rural life, dog-friendly Lodges du Bois Dodo spreads across eight hectares of woodland on the outskirts of the village of Septfonds (five minutes’ drive or a 20-minute walk), in the Tarn-et-Garonne region of southern France. The town of Caussade, with its medieval centre of half-timbered buildings and neo-Gothic cathedral, is about 15 minutes’ drive away. While the kids make new friends in the playground or at the ping-pong tables in the woods, the grown-ups can unwind by the side of the pool with a cold drink, embrace the French lifestyle on the pétanque court or head to the tree-shaded ‘dehors’ of the snack bar to peruse maps of the local area and plan the day’s excursions. Challenging hiking trails in the Causses du Quercy Natural Regional Park (15 minutes) take you through a landscape of dense oak forests, tall rocky cliffs and underground caves. The area around Lalbenque (25 minutes) is known for its truffles, and you can learn all about this delicious fungus on guided walking or cycling tours. Meanwhile, extreme sports enthusiasts might like to check out the via ferrata climbing routes at Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val (15 minutes) or the white-water rafting at the Gorges de l’Aveyron (15 minutes), where less daring folk can have a go at canoeing and paddleboarding. In terms of amenities, the site is no slouch, with a toilet block (with facilities for the disabled), showers and a washing-up area, plus a launderette.

Liked: The natural setting, family run establishment. The warm and friendly welcome. The shower, toilet, washing facilities were immaculate. We had a tranquil and peaceful weekend with our two wee dogs.

Liked: This is an idyllic woodland site and very tranquil. We were approaching the end of their season so there was only one other visitor on the site and pool etc closed. Pitches are rustic and not level so do not expect to get your van completely flat. Owners welcome was very good but there was no sign of life and my ordered baguette in the morning so no breakfast! The facilities were good and clean with plenty of hot water. Nice village close by and good routes for cycling.

Disliked: My breakfast baguette not turning up. Wifi not functional but just about got mobile 5/4g

Liked: Stephan was so so friendly, the site was so empty, we could camp anywhere. Loved the amazing stargazing from there.
Very clean toilet block. Some great local cycling, town has very limited shops.

Disliked: Nothing to not like!

Liked: Friendly owners, cosy atmosphere, with a lot of privacy on the pitches. Lovely setting in the middel of a forest, although only a few minutes drive from the highway. When we arrived there was a foodtruck and live music (until 23.00hrs). Small cafe for good coffee and some refreshments. Bread to be ordered the evening before. Swimming pool and play area. New and clean sanitary block.

Disliked: Mosquitos. No town within walking distance.

Liked: What a wonderful site. We went for the pitch with the private bathroom, which was a great feature. Our position was peaceful and very private to chill after a long day driving. Anna & Stéphane (trainee 😂😂) made us feel so welcome as we arrived with some local beer they had in the bar. The following morning Croissants and fresh baguettes were delivered to start the day off perfect.
Would definitely recommend this site, and hope to visit again soon.

Local attractions

At Parc Aventure Saint Antonin (20 minutes’ drive), the whole family can try their hand at arboreal manoeuvres. Young children start their treetop journey at human height, while daredevils can let rip on the Rando’tyro, which includes multiple ziplines. If you want more than that, there’s also a via ferrata and an exploration of the local cave systems. On the banks of the Aveyron, the medieval Bruniquel Castle (25 minutes) has far-reaching views of the river valley and the gorges. Events at the ruined Forteresse de Penne (also 25 minutes), dating from the 11th century, include workshops and reconstructions with costumed actors. No time to visit the French capital during your holiday in Tarn-et-Garonne? No problem: at Le Petit-Paris, Miniature (half an hour), you can wander among miniature Parisian boulevards and see a tiny Eiffel Tower (complete with glittering illuminations), alongside other iconic monuments like Notre Dame Cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe.

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 30 day(s) of arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
