Adore the idea of a break by the river? Then head to the banks of the Adour river and pitch up at Camping Le Saint-Roch, a family-friendly site right on the riverside and a leisurely 15-minute stroll from the village of Campan. There are aquatic activities galore to be had here, with direct access to the river for swimming, fishing and general messing about, and canoeing, sailing and other watersports available at nearby Bagnères-de-Bigorre and Lac de Payolle. Landlubbing types will find plenty to do in the surrounds too – test your pedalling power on several of the Tour de France mountain passes, perhaps, play a round of golf or take in the vistas from a 19th-century mountain observatory. Back at base, all is geared up for chilled-out family stays: no noisy parties, but plenty of space to spread out, play games and light up a barbie or campfire for an evening huddle. There’s also a playground for les enfants, and a pétanque court and games room for family contests.

  • Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Reception is unmanned after 7 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Liked: L'endroit de camping idéal, pas loin de tout. L'emplacement de tente était très bon, très sympa pour se poser avec les chiens. L'accueil très chaleureux.

Disliked: L'eau pas trop chaude le soir pour se doucher.

Liked: Muy tranquilo, con lo basico y espacio grande entre parcelas.
El rio al lado y un paraje precioso.

Liked: Loved the rugged natural beauty of the site and area in general.
Water and electricity points positioned well with easy access.
Friendly and helpful proprietor.
Facilities were kept clean and in good working order.
Nice small site with large, spacious pitches.
Plenty space for children to run around and play.

Disliked: Would have loved a jungle gym or play apparatus for children.

Liked: We stayed here for 4 nights. It was a beautiful setting under the shade of very large trees, next to a river. It was very relaxing as well as very atmospheric being in the Pyranees with a sound track of the rushing river and owls hooting at night. Lovely wild flowers around the pitches and bats flying in the evening. Convenient for walks and shops. The owner was helpful and friendly. Croissants and baguettes were delivered in the morning and there was a washing machine for clothes.
We would like to return but for now it is in our memories as a beautiful, magical place.

Liked: La nature, le calme l emplacement . Nature intense. Mieux venir en camping car , ou rester une nuit . Voir pourquoi dans « ai pas aimé »

Disliked: L état très vétuste des sanitaires. Pas d eau chaude pour la vaisselle . Lavabos et sanitaires très sales. Odeurs très fortes d urine . La balançoire rafistolée. Dangereux ⚠️ pour les enfants. Pas de papiers toilettes. Pas de savons a mains. Les douches sont aussi très vieilles. L eau sort difficilement et difficile de se rincer le savon . Certains lavabos sont bouchés et on aperçois des touffes de poils. Je n ai pas pris de photos. Je ne suis pas enquêtrices . Mais cela est difficilement supportable. Au bout de deux douches et trois passages toilettes j en peux plus. Je ne pense pas que les sanitaires soient lavés au moins une fois par jour.

Local attractions

If you fancy taking in sweeping views over the Pyrenees, you’ve got choices. Sign up for a paragliding trial from Campan, perhaps, or head to the resort of La Mongie, 20 minutes away by car, to take the cable car up to the top of the Pic du Midi, to visit the museum and 19th-century observatory at 2,877 metres’ altitude. Not such a fan of heights? Climb up just a few metres over at Lac de Payolle, 20 minutes away, to explore the treetop adventure course (canoeing, horse riding and fishing are also options here), or keep your feet firmly on the ground at the Pyrénées Animal Park, 45 minutes’ drive away. Hardcore mountain bike types will find plenty of challenges in the surrounding mountains: follow in the tyre tracks of the Tour de France crew on the mountain passes of Aspin, Azet and La Hourquette d’Ancizan, safe in the knowledge that aching muscles can be soothed in the spa at Bagnères-de-Bigorre, 10 minutes’ drive from the site.
