Take a look at this small, scenic site by a lake in central France. Free from pesticides, Camping La Semnadisse is a natural wildlife haven where kids can help with taking care of the farm animals daily. Ancient oak trees dot the site, and the bathing lake is a popular spot for cooling off on hot summer’s days. The kids will have plenty to do here – from multiple playgrounds, to tractor rides through the farm, not to mention a spot of animal husbandry, with eggs to collect and sheep and ducks to feed (and pet, of course). Or you can hire a bike and go for a cycle ride exploring the local countryside, looking for kingfishers and wild orchids. Rainy day? No problem: there’s table tennis and table football inside a large shed, where it’s also possible to browse a selection of books, which you can then read at leisure, perhaps while nursing a drink in the comfort of the colourful café. Campfires and barbecues are allowed, and there’s a well-stocked supermarket in the town of Gouzon (15 minutes’ drive). If you happen to be here on a Friday, though, you might prefer to join the other guests for pizza day. Everybody is welcome to contribute to the success of this event, whether it’s by collecting wood, by helping to make the dough or by coming up with unusual topping combinations. Come the evening, the pizzas are baked in the wood-fired oven, and devoured in the barn. The site comes with a toilet block, showers and a launderette, plus tents for hire and charging points for electric cars. If you’re using public transport, the owners will also be happy to pick you up from the train station in Guéret (for a small fee).

Liked: Very peaceful and quiet location. Friendly and welcoming staff. Marion in particular was very helpful.

Disliked: Toilets, showers and washing area needs updating considering the price paid.

Liked: Lovely location and relaxed feel.
Huge pitches and masses of space.
Facilities generally very good .
The zip wire over the lake was amazing… and free paddle boards too.

Disliked: Toilet block in top field not kept very clean .

Unfortunately, our regular cleaning fairy was ill and her replacement was apparently not satisfactory. =(

Cleanliness is very important to us so that this is really a no-go!
Since Martin and me were also sick we couldn't control the work of the temporary cleaning person and none of the guests gave us a feedback. What a pity! :(

Liked: The lake with zip line was a massive hit with our boys and me. Showers where clean, pizza night was great, boys also loved going on the quad bike to feed the animals

Local attractions

Birdwatchers make a beeline for the Réserve naturelle nationale de l’étang des Landes (25 minutes’ drive), where it’s possible to spot breeding herons, as well as seasonal guests like ospreys and other birds of prey, from the large, elevated hides. It’s not just wolves at Wolves of Chabrières (35 minutes), an animal park that also houses badgers, deer and boars. Several hides mean that you can spy on the lupine residents as they go about their business in vast enclosures that recreate their natural habitat. The splendid museums of the city of Limoges (75 minutes) are the answer to a rainy day. There’s a great range of subjects to explore: from ceramics at Musée National Adrien Dubouché, to history at Musée de la Résistance, though the kids will likely clamour to visit the aquarium, with its touch tanks.

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.

Extras

Motorbike(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
