  • Friendly Gard site with easy main road access, near Méjannes-le-Clap
  • Vallon-Pont-d'Arc half an hour's drive; an hour to Nîmes or Avignon
  • Outdoor pool, restaurant, play area and entertainment on site
Small enough to be friendly and uncrowded, large enough to have all the facilities you need for a family holiday… and all for a decent price that shouldn’t bust your holiday budget… that’s the deal on offer at Camping Les Dolmens, in the Gard countryside two kilometres from the village of Méjannes-le-Clap. Village facilities are close by, but this site is in a peaceful spot surrounded by trees and with plenty of space to relax. Fabulously easy access from the D979 and D167 also means it’s very straightforward to get to, and then to get out again to visit the area’s attractions – whether you're heading to the Cévennes National Park, aiming for the activities of the Ardèche or checking out cities and towns like Nîmes, Avignon and Uzès. There are plenty of options around for activities and visits, so you’ll probably find that you’re out and about a lot here – but there’s also a good amount of stuff to keep you busy should you opt for some time spent on site. Facilities include an outdoor pool, a play area, a ping-pong table and a pétanque court, and you can hire bikes to pedal around the local area. The local village has a convenience store, a bakery and a couple of restaurants, but you won't need to stray that far in search of eats as the site also has its own restaurant and food shop. Staff also organise evening entertainment in high season to make things nicely sociable.

Local attractions

If your kids can’t get enough of the pool on site, there are several more places where you can treat them to a watery day out – there’s a summer pool in the village, or you can try waterparks like La Bouscarasse (half an hour’s drive) or Aqua Forest (45 minutes). For more outdoor activity, send them up into the trees at Air de Nature (half an hour) or go horse riding (25 minutes). This is a very scenic part of the country, so there are attractive walks and bike rides galore, plus the chance to get underground at Grotte de la Salamandre (10 minutes). One of the area’s real highlights is hiring canoes from Vallon-Pont-d’Arc (half an hour) to paddle along past the Pont d’Arc and on into the stunning Gorges de l’Ardèche. Several of the area’s towns and cities are well worth visiting, too – take a stroll around the Vauban Fort in Alès (35 minutes), explore the medieval centre of Uzès (25 minutes), step back in time at the Roman monuments in Nîmes (an hour) or find everything from ancient walls to contemporary art in Avignon (an hour).
