Roll up, roll up for a carefree dose of summer fun at Camping Les Chênes, a laid-back campsite on the outskirts of rural Junas in the Gard. Set among the Mediterranean scrub typical of the region, spacious pitches are divided – and shaded – by mature trees and all have electric hook-ups. The site is family-run by hosts Aurélie and Julien for families, with lots of thought taken when it comes to keeping everyone occupied. Younger kids will happily amuse themselves for hours at the playground with slides, a trampoline and a bouncy castle, while you can all settle en famille on the sun-soaked deck of the swimming pool and take refreshing dips from time to time. Extra entertainment is laid on during high season, including pétanque games on Tuesday, musical evenings on Thursday and floodlit swimming after dark on Sunday. Foodie concerns are all taken care of too, with fresh bread available every morning at the campsite shop, and a steady supply of ice cream and snacks doled out from the informal terrace bar. You don’t have to go very far to stock up on groceries and bits for your barbecue either: within five minutes’ drive you’re in pretty, riverside Sommières, where there are several supermarkets.

Disliked: Camperplaatsen worden als groot aangegeven. Alles is smal en verschillende etages met de hoogte an je camper niet te doen door de vele bomen.

From the manager: Onze kampeerplaatsen zijn gemiddeld 100m² groot.
We zijn gewend om campers te ontvangen.
In feite zijn er 3 niveaus op onze camping, waarvan er één minder geschikt is voor campers, dus bieden we ze deze plaatsen niet aan.
Over het algemeen, zo niet altijd, laten we mensen hun plaats kiezen.
Je schreef anoniem op 9 augustus, toen we mensen lieten kiezen.
We vinden het daarom een beetje moeilijk om je reactie te begrijpen en vooral waarom je het niet met ons hebt besproken. Het is waar dat de hoogte van de bomen soms een probleem kan zijn. In dergelijke gevallen aarzelen we niet om de takken terug te snoeien. En bovenal had u kunnen vragen om naar een andere plek te verhuizen, wat we graag hadden geaccepteerd...

Liked: El camping está muy bien para ir con niños pequeños, tienen piscina infantil y otra de adultos, también es ideal la zona de parque, hinchables, cama elástica, canastas de básquet y fútbol…los propietarios son muy amables, también puedes encargar pan, pizzas o tomar algo en el bar. Los servicios y duchas también estaban limpios, así que un sitio muy recomendable.

Disliked: Al llegar nos informaron que los chicos sólo pueden bañarse en la piscina con bañador de natación (elástico) no tipo bermuda, que era el que llevábamos, así que tuvimos que comprar uno. Nos sorprendió un poco porque en la tienda tampoco tenían de la talla que necesitábamos, pero el propietario lo solucionó y trajo más tallas al cabo de poco rato. Al final pudimos bañarnos comprando el bañador.

Liked: The welcome was very friendly and everything was clearly explained. The site is attractive with plenty of trees for shade. It is well laid out with a shower block at the centre which was clean & also had laundry facilities. The swimming pool.area had sun loungers but we weren't there long enough to try it.
We ordered a fresh baked baguette for breakfast, which was delicious.
We would recommend as it was well run with great facilities.

Local attractions

If you are intent on exploring the Gard region, Sommières (five minutes’ drive) is a very good place to start. With an ancient bridge straddling the River Vidourle, this medieval town is a labyrinth of cobbled streets leading to Place du Marché, lined with artisan shops and pavement cafés. You can tour the walls of Château de Sommières and the landmark Bermond Tower, or pick up foodie souvenirs like wild boar sausages and Pélardon cheeses from the Saturday market. With ancient Roman foundations, historic Nîmes (35 minutes) beckons with its two-tiered amphitheatre, elegantly symmetrical Maison Carrée temple dating from the first century AD, and exquisite gardens laid out in the Jardins de la Fontaine. For some big-city action, make for Montpellier (45 minutes) to spend time in the Gothic extravaganza that is Cathédrale Saint-Pierre, admiring art masterpieces in the Musée Fabre and people-watching in lively Place de la Comédie. But it’s not all history around here. Days at the seaside are on the cards too; cute Le Grau-du-Roi (35 minutes) has several beaches, while the sands at the modern resort of La Grande-Motte (half an hour) are lifeguarded and backed by cafés.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
