It's free, quick and easy!
- Dog-friendly site with mountain views alongside the river Meuse
- Access to a Voie Verte bike trail and a 35-minute drive from Givet
- Bar on site and pedalos for hire; places to eat a short walk away
A few steps from the river Meuse and below the mountains of the gorgeous Ardennes, Camping Les Bateaux is something of a wildlife haven. It’s the sort of place where it’s easy to kick back, lie on your back and gaze up at the scenery – or you could use it as a base for finding many more splendid ways to soak in the local landscapes…
Just outside the site, a Voie Verte bike trail follows a gentle route along the river Meuse for 85 kilometres; very handily, Camping Les Bateaux hires out two wheels for the intrepid explorers who want to take advantage of the trail. There are plenty of spots to stop for snacks or coffee and cake along the way. Glide up the greenway to Givet (35 minutes’ drive or two hours' cycle) for a coffee under the historic hilltop citadel or to Fumay (15 minutes’ drive or 35 minutes’ cycle) to sample the town’s white pudding. If you don't fancy venturing that far, there are eateries within walking distance of the site in Revin.
At this family-friendly site, there’s evening entertainment during July and August to wind down come evening time. There are pedalos for hire for those who fancy heading out onto the Meuse by day too. Pair that with ample seating outside the bar with the mountains in full view of course (that’s a given), and you have quite a splendid set-up.
Within 15 minutes’ drive of the site, make your way across the Belgian border for beer tasting. Sticking around Revin is bound to be excellent too, as there are waterfalls 35 minutes’ walk away and Maison Espagnole, a half-timbered Spanish house with wood from the early 1500s, is five minutes’ walk away.

Local attractions
The river Meuse might have given you a taste for aquatic views already. Handily, there’s more water within a short drive of Camping Les Bateaux. Take your pick of paddleboarding, canoeing and wild swimming at Lac des Vieilles Forges (15 minutes’ drive)… or stay dry and set about a friendly game on the tennis courts or a feelgood walk in the forest.
North along the river Meuse, Givet (35 minutes) surely has to feature into your itinerary somehow. The 16th-century citadel, which sits on a hilltop above the town, makes the town a particularly scenic day trip destination – and it's also a base for paintball and airsoft activities.
With a local history museum and 17th-century windmill, Charleville-Mézières (40 minutes) is yet another splendid spot along the river Meuse. Visit a puppet theatre or simply relax around the main square with something tasty to eat in hand.
