- Indre glamping stays in a cleverly converted double-decker bus
- Fresselines and Château de Crozant within a 25-minute drive
- Fully equipped unit with bathroom, kitchen, log burner and hot tub
No prizes for guessing what the accommodation is at this Indre site. Yes indeed, at The Big Yellow Bus you’ll be staying in… well, a big yellow bus. Relieved of driving duties, the double-decker bus has found a permanent retirement home at a quiet spot in the Berrichon countryside, a couple of kilometres from the village of Montchevrier.
The vehicle has had quite a dramatic makeover since leaving the roads behind, and now houses everything you need for a comfy stay for up to six people. The three bedrooms have proper beds (a double room, a twin room and a bunk room) and there’s also a fully equipped kitchen, a shower room and a lounge/dining area. A log burner keeps things cosy in the cooler months, with air conditioning on hand for warmer times.
Of course, in the summer months you may well want to be spending a fair amount of time outside – and that’s been made easy here with the provision of a private patio area with garden furniture, a barbecue and a hot tub.
All of this means there’s plenty here to delight both bus fanatics and those who just like something a little bit unusual for their holidays. The surrounding area is just as pleasing, too – there are plenty of lovely outdoor areas for walks, bike rides and fishing, plus various châteaux and cities to visit close by. And naturally, there are lots of places to eat nearby too – from full-blown restaurants to local bars, you shouldn’t go hungry or thirsty around here…

Local attractions
This is a scenic area indeed, so you should find a suitable location nearby if you fancy getting out for a walk, a bike ride or a bit of fishing at a nearby lake. As you roam, you may well encounter ancient dolmen as well as thriving wildlife. For grander old buildings, plan outings to Château de Cluis-Dessous (10 minutes’ drive) or Château de Crozant (25 minutes).
The local landscapes have inspired several creatives as well – Fresselines (20 minutes) is known as the centre of the Vallée des Peintres, a favourite area of Impressionist painter Claude Monet. Meanwhile, in La Châtre (25 minutes) you can explore the house of author George Sand.
If you’re keen to stick to the countryside, head to The Wolves of Chabrières (55 minutes) to spot these intriguing wild beasts. Alternatively, if city life catches your eye, plan trips to Châteauroux (40 minutes), medieval Bourges (an hour and 20 minutes) or the porcelain capital Limoges (an hour and 15 minutes).
