  • Leafy, family-friendly Brittany campsite on the Cap Sizun peninsula
  • Pointe du Raz 25 minutes’ drive; Océanopolis an hour and 10 minutes
  • Heated swimming pool and sports facilities; snacks and a summer bar
Brittany views, four hectares of landscaped parkland and lots of stuff to keep all the family happy – how could you say no? Run by Christel and Julien, Camping Lizoé is a welcoming, peaceful and leafy site with grass pitches on the outskirts of Point-Croix in Finistère, just 25 minutes’ drive from the dramatic clifftops at Pointe du Raz on the Cap Sizun peninsula. There’s no need to stray that far from your pitch to have a good time though; the campsite caters for all ages, with a large playground for younger guests and a heated indoor pool with a retractable glass roof for family splashings around. Keep restless teens busy with games of pétanque, football, volleyball, ping-pong, badminton and mini golf; you can borrow any sports gear you might need from reception. There’s a grocery store at reception (which closes between 12pm and 2.30pm daily) where you can also pick up ice cream and cold drinks, and a snack bar with a covered terrace opens in the evening during high season, serving burgers, pizzas and other family favourites. Anything else you need can be found in Point-Croix, including a supermarket (15 minutes’ walk), an organic grocery store, bars, restaurants and a Breton pancake house (that’s bound to be a hit with the kids).

Electric grass pitch

Liked Absolutely everything. The hosts, the large pitches, spotless sanitary provisions, heated indoor pool, and the marvel that is Brittany. Oh, did I mention Chistel and Julien, our hosts. So warm, friendly, could not do enough, often anticipating our needs / wishes.

Electric grass pitch

Liked We loved this site and felt very peaceful and at home. The owners are so friendly and welcoming, and look after their site with great care. The pitches are relatively large and level, and at the far end of the site you are looking over open fields. The wash blocks are modern and kept clean. The covered swimming pool is amazing. It is large and modern, with changing rooms and lockers - as good as on a 5 star campsite we stayed on in Brittany. The site is just 15 minutes walk to the supermarket and 20 minutes to the mediaeval town centre of Pont-Croix, where there is an excellent creperie and other restaurants. Drinks, a small shop and daily bread deliveries are available at the reception.

Campetoile Pilotis microlodge

Liked We had a cosy quiet night in a funky little cabin on stilts. Very nice campsite and very helpful and welcoming staff/owner.

Disliked Not a dislike but if a small communal camp kitchen could be added someday, maybe just with a kettle and a microwave, it would be great for people travelling light on bikes or on foot.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The motorhome pitch was spacious and well maintained. The facilities were modern and kept spotlessly clean. The indoor swimming pool was excellent . The staff, particularly at reception were friendly and helpful. A short walk took you into St Croix which has a supermarket, banks, bars and restaurants. A night market is held once a week and well worth a visit. The site was quiet at night and it really ticked all the boxes for us for an enjoyable stay.

Local attractions

Get the camera ready as the first stop is Cap Sizun’s Pointe du Raz (25 minutes’ drive). This iconic jagged headland is famed for its soaring cliffs and crashing Atlantic waves; take the hiking boots too to have a ramble along the wild headlands, and have binoculars at the ready to watch fulmars, kittiwakes and guillemots nesting in the cliffs. When a day at the beach is required, Trescadec (15 minutes) is an expanse of fine white sand sweeping around a wide bay, and has a scenic walk along the fishing pier to Phare du Raoulic lighthouse. Plage de Mesperleuc (also 15 minutes) is another sandy spot with lifeguards in summer and a couple of crêperies close by. If the kids are demanding more entertainment, L’Aquashow at Audierne (10 minutes) will fit the bill with raptor-flying displays and aquariums filled with reef sharks and jellyfish. Océanopolis (an hour and 10 minutes) is another spot for anyone who loves the creatures of the deep, with plenty of manta rays and penguins to amuse younger kids and informative talks on ocean conservation for the rest of the family.
