You’re guaranteed a warm welcome at Camping à l'Abri de l'Océan, a family-run and family-friendly site in Finistère, southern Brittany. When staying at this relaxed spot, you can be on the beach at Plage de Kerfany in 20 minutes’ drive or in historic Quimper for a day of sightseeing in half an hour. Leafy, landscaped pitches are shaded by mature trees and portioned by hedges for extra privacy. Each has an electric hook-up, with a water supply nearby. Other handy facilities include showers, washing-up sinks and washing machines to keep everybody looking as good as new. To keep guests happy and entertained on site, a trampoline, a mini-golf course, pétanque court and multi-sports ground will have you all bouncing about and running around. In July and August, the heated swimming pool opens for use, and there’s a full schedule of entertainment for kids (games in the pool and other sporty happenings) and adults (aqua-aerobic classes and evening sing-songs, among others). Gas, charcoal and electric barbecues are allowed on site, but your catering options increase with the opening of the bar every night in summer (Monday and Friday evenings only out of season), as well as a snack bar (expect burgers, frites and pizza) and a grocery store selling fresh bread every morning.

Liked: Very quiet site as we are so early in the season. Everything you could need is there. The toilets and showers near reception are spotless and modern. The local villages and coast are gorgeous and you’re only a few minutes away from the shops. It’s a great location for exploring the area. We had a bit of trouble with our van and had to order and wait for a part. Nathalie couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly 🤩.

Liked: Nice quiet site, mainly chalets, but a few camping, facilities close by, swimming pool and bar great.

Disliked: Facilities for toilets not big enough, some queueing required occasionally, and could do with modernising.

Liked: Big pitch, free good WiFi, covered heated pool, 5 mins in car from intermarche. Pizza snack hut and bar on site.
20 mins drive to Lorient sub base

Disliked: Main toilet block a bit dated and open air. Reception toilets and showers good though.

Liked: A nice camp site and the lady was really accommodating and friendly. We arrived late and she was very helpful. I would stay there again

Disliked: I was a bit put off with the urinals being in view in the mixed sex abolution block but I guess that is how things are done in France

Local attractions

There’s much to discover in this spectacular corner of Finistère, with its wind-carved coastline of coves and rocky beaches. As well as taking a dip off Plage de Kerfany, you can easily drive to Plage de la Roche Percée to admire its striking sea arch, or end the day at Plage de Trenez (all 20 minutes’ drive) for amazing sunset views over the Atlantic Ocean. The jagged headland of the Crozon Peninsula (an hour) is a haven for active types. Take the GR34 hiking trail from the Cap de la Chèvre (90 minutes) to spot the islands of Molène and Ouessant, or if mountain-biking is your thing, you’ll definitely appreciate the steep gradients of Ménez-Hom (an hour and 10 minutes), a volcanic peak with views right to the ocean. Finistère is also steeped in history. Riverside Quimperlé (10 minutes) is an historic town with mellow stone churches and a lively café life, while the pretty little port of Doëlan (20 minutes) and its lighthouse sit on the Laïta river. Head for Quimper to tour its Gothic-era Saint-Corentin Cathedral, Romanesque priory and medieval city centre, or make the trip to Concarneau (both half an hour) to stroll its austere ramparts for marina and ocean views.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
