  • Fully-equipped site in the Burgundy wine region
  • On the shores of the Yonne river
  • More than 60km of biking trails nearby
Guaranteed to make you merry… Burgundy's Camping Merry-sur-Yonne is in smashingly colourful setting on the banks of the Yonne river, in a lush land of flower-filled fields, windmills, long bike rides, fishing, hundreds of kilometres' worth of Yonne sailing, and the plush landscapes of the Burgundy vineyards: have a holiday here to be well chuffed with your lot. The campsite is set in a bend of the Yonne, with designated strolling paths and marked cycle routes (bike hire is available if you haven't brought your own). Its facilities are well set up to see you sorted for days staying on site: there's a restaurant with three-course daily menus, a café, a bar with local beers, and an on-site shop selling local produce. Camping Merry-sur-Yonne also has a luxury toilet block with unlimited water for hot showers as well as swish handmade artisan baths; two tennis courts, and a kids' play zone with swings, slides, and climbing. Parents can sink into the shade of the trees and umbrellas outside the café to keep an eye on the kids over the cocktail of the day or a tasty snack: that might make things somewhat merry too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Beautiful setting with local cycle paths
Shop on site and bar/restaurant
Didn’t use facilities and restaurant closed on a Monday but it looked very nice.

Disliked: No hot water the whole time we were there - so quite expensive considering.
The grass could be cut and a little more love needed around the site.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for your review.

I discussed this matter and you said there was no problem. Now you leave a 6/10 star review complaining! We would have happily compensated you but you said it was ok!

Unfortunately, in France, repair times can be slower than the UK. It's France! RURAL FRANCE!!

I'm not sure what else we could have done for you! If you had said "Well, I am a little disappointed." we would have definitely compensated you. As I write this now we have already, happily, compensated seven other guests. We do not for one second ever wish to have unhappy guests. We would have refunded you, we would have absolutely refunded.

Our aim, always, is to please. We are people pleasers. We want every guest to have an amazing time. Sadly, our boiler failing is something beyond our people pleasing control.

Again, you said you were ok, so now seeing you leave a low review is just simply nasty. We could have offered compensation, but you said all was fine. Guessing you were just looking forward to slagging us off. You really are the type of people that destroy small tourism businesses. With all the problems tourism businesses have, struggling everyday with increasing utility bills and weather shifts we have nasty people like you just adding to the collapse.

We have done everything we could have done and you slag us off after smiling to our faces. Terrible.

The plumber is coming today and everything will be sorted, however, your nasty review will remain even though now there is no problem with the water heating - somewhat unfair don't you think! It's like punishing the dog everyday even after he's corrected his behaviour. Every day now we are punished for your nasty review even though everything is now fine.

*Update - The plumber was delayed because his aunt had had a stroke.

Regarding the grass cutting..

We can not cut grass when it is wet. 80% of the campsite is cut, we had to stop because of the rain. Do you cut your grass in the rain? Please tell me how I cut grass in the rain!!!!!!? Or were you, as I suspect, just trying to find more things to moan about? We haven't managed to get all the painting we wished to do because of the bad weather at the start of the year - please feel free to moan about that, my husband has cancer and can't do the work he used to, please moan away. Our chef's cat died last month and he had to have a few days off and the restaurant menu had to be smaller -please moan about that.

Shit happens, but we get over it. Leaving a petty review stays even though the problems have changed. We are judged by your review forever, which is unfair. It destroys rural jobs for those who really need it. Shame on you.

A petty, nasty and naive review from someone who said... all was ok.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Good site with good facilities. Showers were hot and clean. Staff friendly.

Disliked: Hook up’s were doubled up and being repaired so not available for the hard standing site we booked so we had to settle for a grass pitch

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: This site was not too big, it has a well stocked shop, and on site restaurant that was open in November. Site staff spoke English and were very helpful and friendly. For a quiet site this is it. The restaurant chef even cooked my fillet steak perfectly well done. Hope to visit the site again.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Friendly, great place. Lovely food. Already booked our next stay on return journey. Fresh bread and pastries in morning. Toilets were clean, didn't use showers but they looked clean. Staff made a effort to make you welcome. Nice atmosphere in the campsite.

Disliked: No one takes notice of the rubbish rules. Made a point of sorting our recycling, to find out that all bins just had rubbish thrown in.

Local attractions

With luck you'll have booked a couple of weeks, as there's heaps to see and do around Camping Merry-sur-Yonne to attend to all tastes. A horse riding centre, fishing spots and watersports are all nearby if you're feeling active, along with a golf course about half an hour away. The 62-kilometre bike trail near the site runs mostly along the Nivernais canal with only a few hills, so is sorted for family bike rides. A must in the region is the Yonne Vineyards Trail, meandering through the countryside that produces some of the best known Burgundy wines, like famed Chablis and its neighbours in the Auxerrois and Tonnerrois regions, as well the slightly further afield vineyards of Joigny to the north and Vézelay to the south.
