Ah, the Morvan. The nearest mountain range to Paris, a central massif of forested hills, cliffs and lakes, ancient villages in between world-renowned vineyards… Fancy it? Fix up a stay at Camping des 2 Rives, a fab base to explore the region. It’s in the south of the Morvan Regional Natural Park in the Burgundy region, five minutes’ walk from the town of Étang-sur-Arroux and in between the Arroux and Mesvrin rivers: a well-kept site, where trees provide shade and plentiful flowers and hedges attract birds and insects and scent the breeze. There’s lots to see and do in the area but no need to get going too early: daily bread deliveries in the summer months mean you can breakfast at leisure as you plan your day. A snack bar is open during summer evenings three days a week too. Duly recharged, the kids can clamber around at the playground and you can battle it out on the boules court. If you’re a fan of alfresco feasting, you can store your perishables in the communal fridge and cook on the shared barbecue. There’s probably no ingredient you couldn’t find in the shops and supermarkets of Étang-sur-Arroux, and a generous spread of restaurants and bars is up there too. You can also buy tackle, bait and fishing permits there, to make the best of having two fish-filled rivers right next door.

Liked: What a beautiful spot!
Our 12 yr old grandson was overjoyed at the river bank location as he loves to fish. So peaceful & plenty of space. We only booked one night & didn't really want to leave the next morning to continue on our journey.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Heel vriendelijk ontvangen. We mochten zelf een plekje uitzoeken en we konden rechtstreeks aan de rivier staan, dit was heerlijk! Voor de kinderen een mooie speeltuin en heerlijk kunnen zwemmen in de rivier.

De eigenaren zijn heel vriendelijk en het sanitair is prima. Je kunt een kano huren, ook heel goed geregeld.

Wij hebben een extra nacht doorgebracht en in totaal 4 nachten gestaan.

Fijne ervaring!

Liked: Lovely pitches by the river although we were sited on a hard standing with no view.
Showers were clean and nice and hot.

Disliked: Toilets had no soap or toilet seats/ paper. They were also unisex.

Liked: Sehr freundlicher Betreiber.

Disliked: Der Waschraum m/w war sehr sauber etwas in die Jahre gekommen und minimal beheizt. Es gab kein Toiletten Papier und keine Seife zum Händewaschen. Bei jedem Preis ein minimaler Luxus.

Local attractions

If you’re more about antics on the river than waiting for a bite beside it, hire canoes from the site and take a day trip down the Arroux, stopping off for riverside picnics and paddles; trips can be arranged with a pickup downstream in St.Nizier-sur-Arroux. Hikers and bikers are richly provided for here: it’s a 25-minute drive to the slopes of Mont Beuvray, crisscrossed with trails through the surrounding countryside. As well as being worth a wander for its medieval streets, Nolay (45 minutes) is surrounded by circuits past vineyards, up limestone cliffs and crags and over thundering waterfalls. If you want to scale some cliffs the hard way, with hands, feet and maybe a rope or two, make for the sheer face at Cormot, also 45 minutes away. If you’re into history, the former Gallo-Roman town of Autun (20 minutes) has a ruined temple, a barely-ruined-at-all arena from Roman times and weekly markets that have been a fixture for almost as long. To get deep into the past, make for Bibracte (20 minutes), where the museum and the excavated town tell the story of Gaulish leader Vercingetorix and his fateful clash with Rome, amid cracking Morvan scenery and footpaths following the Gauls’ route to their last great battle.

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
