  • Peaceful site in Normandy-Maine Regional Natural Park
  • A 20 minutes-drive to Domfront en Poiraie; Mont Saint-Michel an hour
  • Wooded grounds with a lake for fishing, walks and pedal boating
Seeking space and the simple life in Lower Normandy? Set off to Les Rives de Bel Air, a peaceful site on the western edge of the Normandy-Maine Regional Natural Park. There are 500,000 acres of parkland and woodland to explore around the natural park, and you’ll feel like you’re fully immersed in these fabulous natural surroundings at this site. The spacious grass pitches are surrounded by wooded grounds, with a natural lake on site where guests can go fishing or take pedal and rowing boats out for a spin. Laidback and convenient, the site has toilet and shower facilities, and welcomes dogs, campfires and barbecues. Supplies for your meals are available at the grocery shop five minutes’ drive away in Passais. Strolling around the site is a very pleasant way to spend a few hours, but it’s quite possible that you’re here for more extensive walks – and those are certainly possible on the many scenic trails running through the surrounding natural park. There are also pretty villages and towns to stroll through nearby (including Domfront en Poiraie, 20 minutes’ drive away), and the famed Mont Saint-Michel is just over an hour’s drive away.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Electric grass and earth pitch

Local attractions

Walking shoes at the ready – there are lots of lovely places for a hike nearby. You may like to centre your outings around natural sights like La Fosse Arthour (20 minutes’ drive) and the craggy trails around the Rock of Oëtre (55 minutes), or make a beeline for man-made highlights like the Eiffel-designed Souleuvre Viaduct (an hour) – you may also be able to try thrill activities like ziplining and bungee jumping here. For those with an eye for heritage, places like the 15th-century ruins of Tour de Bonvouloir (half an hour) should be on the schedule. Mont Saint-Michel too, if you’ve never been – the country’s most-visited attractions outside of Paris is a little over an hour’s drive away. Fancy a bit of town wandering too? Gorron (10 minutes) has a lovely Wednesday market, plus a pool and a popular Boulodrome for the pétanque fans, and pretty Mayenne (25 minutes) is nice for a riverside stroll. A local highlight is Domfront en Poiraie (20 minutes), with cobbled streets, the ruins of Château de Domfront and city walls with remnants of 14 towers.
