- Family-friendly site with fishing lakes and a 2.5-acre kids’ play area
- A five-minute drive to the Cerisy Forest and 25 minutes to Bayeux
- Covered pool complex, BMX track, zipwire, petting zoo and giant swing
The phrase ‘family-friendly’ takes on a new meaning at Domaine de Litteau, a Normandy countryside site with activities specifically designed to please every member of the clan. Grownups have a couple of fishing lakes, a nearby forest for walks and a covered pool complex with a hot tub to please even the pickiest parent, while the kids can nip between a 2.5-acre outdoor play zone, BMX track, climbing ropes, a giant swing and a zipwire.
A small petting farm’s also on site, so the family can fawn over cute critters together – think goats, ducks and a miniature pig – and four-legged friends brought from home are permitted at the park as well.
Craving some alone time? Staff at the kids’ club are on hand to supervise the sprogs, but you’ll need to stick around and look after any 1- to 4-year-olds diving into the ball pit in the Bubbles Playroom. Les enfants are kept entertained after dark too, with a kids’ show put on in the evenings (and followed by adult-friendly games and shows a handful of evenings a week).
Another boon for grownup guests is the location of the site, a five-minute walk from the village of Litteau and close enough to ferry ports like Caen (around a 50-minute drive away) for easy access from the UK.

Local attractions
Normandy’s known for its wartime history and WWII buffs have ample attractions to amble along to in the area, from the D-Day landing beaches to the military cemeteries for international soldiers.
For an in-depth introduction to what happened in the area during the 1940s, take a guided boat tour around the Arromanches Mulberry harbour and Omaha beach (35 minutes’ drive), or witness the action on screen at Arromanches 360, a museum with a circular theatre combining archive film with modern images of Normandy.
Another historic battle is commemorated in Bayeux (25 minutes) at Notre-Dame Cathedral, home to the 68-metre, 11th-century tapestry depicting the Norman conquest of England in 1066. The town’s also worthy of a visit for wanders through the cobbled medieval centre.
Kids couldn’t give a hoot about history? Head to the wide and sandy Omaha beach for a session with the bucket and spade; if mum or dad is hankering after a go on the green, the Omaha Beach Golf Club (25 minutes; open late March to late October) is a 27-hole course with dreamy views over the sea.
