- Family-friendly site surrounded by the orchards of the Lot Valley
- On the riverfront, 15 minutes’ drive from Puy-l'Évêque
- Swimming pool, pétanque, fishing and canoe rental on site
Prepping for a holiday in the Lot Valley, and preferably one which involves lots of fishing, swimming and perhaps a bit of canoeing too? Let Camping les Catalpas do the honours. Directly on the Lot river, the family-friendly site welcomes guests to fish or go wild swimming in the river. It also rents out canoes (as long as children are accompanied by a responsible adult).
This is a place that's surrounded by the scenic orchards of Lot-et-Garonne in the southwest of France and a short drive away from local shops and restaurants. Between Périgord and Gascony, and within 35 minutes’ drive of the south of Dordogne, it’s a very handy base for tracking down hiking trails, towns and villages with tasty food and stunning castles.
You may want to start by taking a tour of the bastides (medieval fortified towns) of the Lot Valley. The site is a 20-minute drive from Monflanquin and 35 minutes from Villeneuve-sur-Lot. If touring castles is one of your top priorities too, make the 10-minute drive to Bonaguil Castle. For food shopping, the closest shops are within a five- to 10-minute drive of the site.
There are many fine ways to end the afternoon at Camping les Catalpas, whether it’s preparing for an evening of fishing or taking a dip in the outdoor swimming pool, which is only 1.45 metres deep. For those who take their family pétanque tournaments very seriously, there is also a pétanque court on site. Dogs are very welcome to join the holiday here, so no family member (furry or not) has to stay at home.

Local attractions
Foodies may want to begin their time at Camping les Catalpas with an outing to the Farm and Pruneau Museum (an hour’s drive), a place dedicated to the indulgent prune. In Montayral, there is also a shop selling delicious prunes should you want to make it your go-to holiday snack.
Spend some time underground at Grottes de Fontirou (45 minutes), a series of caves lit by lamps. If you’d rather stick to exploring above ground, Villeneuve-sur-Lot (35 minutes) is a scenic spot to do so. The bastide town has traditional markets, grand town gates and gorgeous architecture all along the Lot river.
Bonaguil Castle (10 minutes) is another stunning spot to stroll around. Surrounded by lush, green countryside, the fortified castle was originally built in the 13th century, making it very, very old.
