How’s this for an excellent location for your Landes holiday? The glamping units at L’Orée des Landes are in a peaceful forest setting on the edge of the village of Onesse-Laharie, so you’ll be able to relax and soak up the chilled countryside atmosphere – but you’ll also easily be able to stroll to a shop or a restaurant.
That said, in reality you won't even have to leave the site for a meal if you don’t want to, as this well-equipped family site has its own restaurant and snack bar. Barbecues are also provided, so you may prefer to stock up on supplies while you're out and about and then get the grill going when you get back home.
Each of the accommodations also has its own kitchen for snack and meal prep, along with other handy facilities including a private bathroom, towels and bed linen provided and an outdoor space with furniture.
And the main site is just as well equipped, with shared facilities including a swimming pool, miniature golf, pétanque and volleyball areas and plenty of games including billiards, table football and table tennis. There’s also a lovely private pond with a sandy beach where you can fish or cool your feet in the water if you’ve been out on a walk in the nearby Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park.

Local attractions
The edge of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park is about 15 minutes' drive away, putting you within easy reach of more than 800 acres of wonderful protected landscapes to explore on foot, by bike/mountain bike or in canoes or kayaks. As you explore, look out for both wildlife (including herons, otters and deer) and contemporary art installations – there are around 35 sculptures to seek out among the woods.
There are more outdoor activities to join in with if you head over towards the coast – options include horse riding on the beach from Saint-Julien-en-Born (15 minutes’ drive), surf lessons in Mimizan Plage (25 minutes) or just strolling through the sand dunes in Moliets-et-Maa (40 minutes). If you're feeling brave you could also take on the high ropes courses at Landes Adventure Park (25 minutes); if not, head to the National Hunting Reserve and Wildlife Arjuzanx (15 minutes) for swimming and fishing in the lake.
For other outings, stop by at the spa town of Dax (45 minutes) or plan days out in Bayonne (an hour) and Bordeaux (an hour and 15 minutes). You could even skip down to the Spanish border (an hour and 15 minutes) for some time on the north coast.
