- Under an hour’s drive from Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio
- Barbecue or breakfast, lunch and dinner available; tours available
Guanacaste in Costa Rica: no wonder so many go there, when it has parklands with diverse wildlife, volcanoes and gorgeous surfing beaches combined. And, no wonder that Finca Chilamate is a spot so many want to stay too. With 63 acres of space, distant views of mountains and hikes and waterfalls nearby, it’s a peaceful, pretty spot.
This lovely place is well-prepared for adventurous sorts, as the site can arrange tours and activities like horseback riding and hiking. They’ll like not just the tours, but also the location, as there are several parks within driving distance…
It’s approximately 40 minutes’ drive to Parque Nacional Palo Verde, most famous for its huge flocks of native birds. Miravalles Jorge Manuel Dengo National Park, 45 minutes’ drive away, is home to the Miravalles Volcano. Then, there’s Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio: under an hour’s drive away, this is the spot to track down the Celeste Waterfall, hot springs, canopy bridges and yet more wildlife.
If any of the aforementioned adventures get you sweaty and sticky, there’s a bathroom with a shower on site for your return. If you require yet more cooling down, simply head to the outdoor swimming pool for a dip. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available to pre-order, but guests are also welcome to put together a barbecue.
This is a peaceful, wildlife-oriented place, but all the same, it’s only two kilometres away from the Inter-American highway (handy for getting around) and 40 minutes’ drive from the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport. Beaches on the south coast are an hour’s drive away.
