Local attractions
Set up here and you'll really be in the heart of this elegant city’s action. And you’re also all set for family days out at Adelaide Zoo (15 minutes’ walk) and bucket-and-spade fun at Semaphore Beach (25 minutes’ drive), with its calm seas for swimming and plenty of room to fly a kite or chuck a frisbee around.
Kickstart the day with a gentle stroll around Adelaide Botanic Garden (15 minutes) to check out the rare blooms, or up the fitness regime and get your hiking boots on for serious schleps up Mount Lofty (20 minutes) or Skye Lookout (10 minutes) for views over the city to St Vincent Gulf.
And foodies, you’ll probably be in heaven here too. You can feast on samples from the gourmet stalls in Adelaide Central Market (five minutes), or pick up dim sum and noodle soup from the surrounding street-food cafés. If you’d like to taste some local wines, head up into the Adelaide Hills to vineyards around Hahndorf (30 minutes), a town with German architecture and a rep for artisan food and drink stores.
