  • Family-friendly site with easy access to Newgale Beach, Pembrokeshire
  • Haverfordwest 15 minutes’ drive; Tenby 50 minutes
  • On the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; bistro-bar on site
If you would like your Welsh holiday to be punctuated by spectacular sunsets over the sea, now might be the time to book a spot at Newgale Campsite. This family-run (and family-friendly) spot benefits from a privileged location on the western coast of Pembrokeshire. How do you fancy the idea of getting up in the morning, crossing the road, scrambling across a low bank of shingle and being faced by the spectacle of St Brides Bay? It shouldn’t take any more than… oh, about one minute on foot to reach Newgale Beach. The time you save by staying so close to the sea can be invested in your favourite water-based activities, whether wild swimming, surfing or canoeing. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes just by the site; follow it north to reach Porth Mynawyd (a one-hour walk), a remote tidal beach in a deep cove with shallow waters and rockpools, or south to Nolton Haven Beach (55 minutes’ walk). This is a popular spot for surfing, so you might want to drive instead and bring your board (it takes about 10 minutes by car). National Trust - Southwood Estate (five minutes’ drive) is a top place for spotting the local wildlife, from grazing ponies to nesting birds. The nearest pub is right on site: the bistro-bar, named The Landsker Line, dishes out local Pembrokeshire ales, soft drinks and coffee, as well as food like pasties, sausage rolls, loaded fries and ice cream. It's a splendid place to refuel and unwind, especially since it has sports TVs and live music from artists throughout the season. Amenities on site include a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, a launderette and a communal freezer. On weekends in June and the school summer holidays, a catering van serves woodfired pizzas. There are also several restaurants within a five-minute drive of the site, plus plenty more in Haverfordwest (15 minutes).

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked * Close to the beach.
* Reception on site, selling drinks and chocolate.
* Bistro bar in walking distance.
* Dog-friendly
* Staff very friendly.
* Unlimited pitch space.

Disliked * The price of the wood fired pizzas is ridiculous.
* Not really family friendly, more adults in groups than children.
* Other than the beach, not much for children to do.
* The walk up and down the steep pebbles to get to the beach.

From the manager: Hi there,
Thanks for your review.

Glad you enjoyed the location, friendly team, and open layout. The beach is definitely a highlight, though the pebble bank can be a bit of a climb. The site naturally attracts a mix of guests, and while it’s not packed with kid-focused activities, some families enjoy the simplicity and space.

Appreciate you giving it a go and hope you made the most of the coast while you were here!

All the best,
Charlotte, Team Newgale

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Loved the vibe, how well organised it was considering it got so busy over the weekend. It was very well managed, well kept and the family who run the business were great. The sea and walks along the coast were spectacular. My mum and I booked for 2 nights with electric and ended up staying 3 more nights in a field with no electric as they were fully booked but we had enough charge to last us the extra 3 nights. Pizza on Friday and a singer n the bar at the end of the field on Saturday which we could hear from outside our van. All very pleasant and would go again

Disliked Nothing to dislike really

From the manager: Thanks so much for your wonderful review!

We’re thrilled you enjoyed the vibe and found the site well organised, especially during busy times. It’s great to hear you made the most of the location and local entertainment, even extending your stay spontaneously.

Looking forward to welcoming you and your mum back anytime.

Thanks and all the best,
Charlotte, Team Newgale

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Location was great, our pitch was a minute walk from the beach. We went with our two little dachshunds and they loved it too. The staff were extremely friendly. The on site bar had an adequate selection of food and drinks. The toilet and shower facilities were clean. I didn't mind to pay for the shower because it helped a quicker turnover during the busy periods. The Saturday night live music was fantastic. I tried to never miss the sunset. It was breathtaking. We were doing sup boarding. There is a surf shop 2 minutes walk from the camp site where we could buy all sorts of water sport related equipment and even more. The atmosphere was very chilled and relaxed even during a very busy time. We didn't try the pizza van, but next time we definitely will go for it.

From the manager: Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful review!

It’s fantastic to hear you and your dachshunds enjoyed the location and relaxed atmosphere, and that the staff and facilities met your expectations. The live music and sunsets really do add something special, don’t they?

Great tip about the nearby surf shop for water sports gear, sounds like you made the most of the area. We’ll make sure the pizza van is ready for you next time!

Looking forward to welcoming you back soon.

Non-electric grass pitch (no pets)

Liked The location, next to the beach and the coast path.
We parked at the top of the hill so the views too.
Although the site is quite big and was fairly busy, the pitches were well spaced out and the site had a good atmosphere.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch (no pets, water hook-up)

Liked The site is opposite an amazing beach.

Disliked It’s a busy site and unfortunately we were pitched opposite the reception caravan. It was a really busy spot with vehicles arriving to check in. Next time I would ask not to be pitched immediately either side of the amenity block. WiFi poor.

From the manager: Hi there,
Thanks for your feedback

We’re glad you enjoyed being so close to the beach. We understand your concerns about the pitch location near reception and the busy area—it’s definitely something to consider when booking, and we’re happy to note any preferences for quieter spots next time.

We’re aware the WiFi can be patchy and are always exploring ways to improve connectivity.

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts and hope to welcome you back for a more peaceful stay.

Local attractions

The smallest city in the UK, St Davids (15 minutes’ drive) has a cathedral that holds a shrine to St David, which was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Just across the River Alun are the imposing ruins of Llys yr Esgob, Tyddewi / St Davids Bishop’s Palace. Roller coasters, water rides and family attractions await at Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour), which also has a soft-play area and indoor games. If the kids (or you…) are more into animals, book a relaxed trek at Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (45 minutes). Do you like sunrises as much as sunsets? Then get up early and head to Tenby (50 minutes), which has two east-facing sandy beaches on Bae Caerfyrddin. From Tenby it’s also possible to catch a boat to Caldey Island, where you might buy chocolate or perfume made by the resident monks.
