  • Family-run site situated on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Direct access to Porthsele beach; a mile from Whitesands
  • Farm shop, coffee hut, bar and pizzas available in high season
Fancy a stay on a family-run farm… with direct access to a beach below? Make your way to Pencarnan Farm Caravan and Camping Site, a 96-acre farm overlooking Porthsele beach on the Pembrokeshire coast. The site is on the most western tip of Pembrokeshire, with views of St Georges Channel connecting the Irish and Celtic seas. You'll be in good company with a stay here: generations of the same family have been running the site since the mid-1950s, a holiday spot for guests who return year after year – some with their kids and grandkids now in tow. This place is just the ticket for outdoor adventures too, as it's set directly above Porthsele beach (with private vehicle access so you can cart all your kit along with you). The sea and bay are safe for swimming and kayaking, and there are plenty of rockpools to explore at low tide. If you haven’t got your fill of sea breeze, surfing beach Whitesands is a one-mile walk along the coastal path or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a half-mile swim or kayak from Porthsele. Sorting supplies is easy at the farm too: in the high season, a site shop is on hand with camping and food supplies, wetsuits and logs for beach fires, and a coffee hut opens every day. A bar and pizzas are also available at peak times.

Beach Field non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Wow- you would pay so much more just for the views! The grass beach camping field is huge and there was plenty of space to set up in any direction although everyone was facing the beach. It is sloped but everyone found a flat spot.
The onsite shop is the best stocked store that has a little bit of everything. I didn’t use the bar but the coffee shop and pizzeria were a bit hit.
There are plenty of walks in the area and the beach is 2 mins away from the top of the field.
Even with a huge rainstorm the field has excellent drainage and wasn’t a problem for the campervans moving about the following morning.
Great shower/toilet facilities and many recycling bins.

Disliked: Nothing- it was paradise

3-amp Carn Llidi View electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Wow! What a fantastic campsite from the outstanding views, pitch location by the privately owned beach to the Courtyard facilities and the hands on work from the owners. I would recommend this site to anyone both young and older. The most dog friendly site we’ve ever been on owners dogs wander friendly round the court yard and our dog off lead the whole stay! Outstanding and I’ve experienced many campsite . The courtyard is where all the facilities are in one place , the showers, shop, wash up, quiet bar area, pizza place and they are lovely too! All I can say is book! The only negative is the road in but it’s a country road and there are plenty passing places so not really a negative therefore 10/10 ! What a unique place you’ll love it and worth our 6 hour drive too

Disliked: WiFi couldn’t get much of a signal on pitch but good signal and WiFi available on courtyard

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again. It's important to note for future campers who may read this that we do ask that dogs are kept on a lead when in the camping fields and on The Courtyard.

16-amp Rhosson Field electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Great views and small walk to the beach.

Disliked: Toilets and washrooms were very out dated, not very clean at all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Some may argue that you couldn't really leave an accurate review as you were only here for 8 hours, but you gave it a go and here we are - our first ever 1/10!

As other reviews state, our facilities are cleaned regularly. If you found them to not be sufficiently clean I do hope you let someone know to give us a chance to rectify it for the next person. They are housed in a converted cow barn, with exposed stone work and beams, so yes, they are wonderfully dated.

Beach Field non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The view; nature, the beach, the wonderful shop and bar, the best pizza I've ever eaten, Putenesca, freshly made on site. Toilet facilities good, and little touches like growing herbs and having power points in the seating outside areas for us in tents to use appliances.

Disliked: The weather sadly. Seriously windy one night and cold and wet most of time too. Didn't spoil the break though, it made it more fun. Gorgeous place overall.

Local attractions

This is heaven for beach buffs: Porthsele and Whitesands beaches are both within walking distance of Pencarnan. At Porthsele, take your pick from kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding from its sandy shore; if fishing's more your bag you can fish for mackerel, pollock and seabass from the beach and from certain points on the cliff around Pencarnan's land. There are also a few marked climbing spots around the cliffs on the land and some good entry points for coasteering or a coastal swim back to Porthsele beach… followed back at base with a sunset beach fire or barbecue to end the day. The famed surfing centre of Whitesands, a mile away on the coast path from Pencarnan, has a café, deckchairs and wetsuit hire, plus lifeguards in the summer months. Heading south, St Justinian’s (under a mile away along the coast path) is home to RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station and a departure point for boat trips around, onto and beyond Ramsey Island to spy seals, seabirds, porpoises, whales, dolphins and sharks. Make time too for a trip to the tiny city of St Davids, to browse its shops and galleries and take a look at sixth-century St Davids Cathedral.
